Possibly someone trying to perpetuate the original hood number. Now whether the hood is original to the vehicle is another question.

For example here is one from the 2L's....

Hmmm.....there can't be many more hoods with this number on them....or can there? One should be sufficient. :D

Well, Do you have an A1 and do you have a BUDD tag under the hood on the cowl right above the valve cover? Those numbers off of that tag will give Ken something to work with to be able to tell you if that is the assigned number to that vehicle.

Under my hood is the same number as on the dash nameplate of my M151A1. Original hood to the vehicle or replacement? I don't know, but the hood has been on there a long time.

Hello Bryan...

When vehicles were being re-painted, the hood number was often moved to the underside of the hood, especially so when camo painting was introduced. It is more than likely that your dash plate number and the number painted on the hood underside are the same. The body number is a different matter altogether...... the body number should be on that little plate on the firewall....the one with BUDD on it.

Hi Rick....
it's from my files. I don't know who RLEETERRY is but he isn't the person who sent me the picture I posted. That's why I have difficulty in understanding why there are two hoods with the same registration number underneath (unless RLEE has bought the original vehicle....or the hood from it.)

Looking forward to seeing RLEE's picture of the hood. :D

The number on my 151 is 2B6515 so is my mutt older or newer than this one??? The year was 1960.I figured out my answer as the A1 came after the 151---it had turn signals whereas mine didn't

Yes, I will take a bunch of pictures when the weather is better. Mark mine is a 1966 and the data plate has it as a Rock Island Armory front line Ambulance.
Which mine still has the extention bolted on the back. I will be taking that off. I'm not wanting to show it as an Ambulance. Just want it as the M151
