Hub tie down points

Postby Pops506th » April 22nd, 2018, 8:11 pm

Has anyone here tied their 151 down using a clevis and chain on the hubs? I'm heading down to the MVCC meet at Petaluma in a couple of days and was wondering how that tie down method works out.

I have done it that way with no real issues. An A1 or straight will tend to walk the rear around a bit sideways until the suspension tops out. That is due to the camber change but it is not a big deal since most trailers have more than enough room for it to walk a few inches one way or the other. The advantages of tying down this way are that the suspension on the vehicle soaks up all the bumps and does not transfer the load to the tie downs. One thing you have to watch for is that you get the clevis as close to pointing in the direction of the strap as possible because as you travel it will spin that tire and loosen things up.
