Remember D-Day

Postby m3a1 » June 3rd, 2018, 11:44 am

The final days leading up to the assault on Festung Europa must have been exceedingly busy for the Allies.

Every June this comes to the forefront of my mind.

Please remember take a moment to remember or recognize ALL who work each day to make the world a better place and be especially grateful to those who bravely place themselves in harm's way to do the same.

June 6th, 1944 - D Day

There is a day that most people in this country do not even know about!

And yet the liberation of Rome - the epicenter of the Christian world - on June 4 is scarcely a footnote.

Seriously? o_O
Did you know that each invasion had a “D day”? D-day for Operation Overlord was June 6, 1944; D-day for Operation Shingle was January 22, 1944. It was Nov. 8, 1942 for Operation Torch, Aug. 15, 1944 for Operation Dragoon, March 24, 1945 for Operation Varsity, etc. “D” simply represents “day.” It was used for the planning stages. E.g., “we don’t know exactly when we’ll invade, but at H hour on D day the first wave of troops will land on the beach. At H-plus 3* the second wave of troops will land. At D-plus 1 we anticipate our troops will have secured the beach and be a half-mile inland. ...”
*three hours after H-hour

Edit... sorry about the pm. I meant to quote, not message. @$#%! Ipad’s tiny icons.
