Paint color

Unread post by agwrangler » July 19th, 2018, 1:27 pm

I know this gets discussed a bit, but am sitting at my desk, scratching my heads, and wondering to myself....

My A2 that I am restoring right meow is going to be restored as a USMC version. Made in 1968. AM General.

Its bought that time to put paint on it, and I am just hung up, as I really don't know which way I want to go.
I can do the Camo pattern that is popular, but also wouldn't mind going straight green. I didn't think it was going to bother me all that much, and now that its here, it sure is.

If I go straight green, I can either do the 24087 like the M38A1 which is common for Army, but not certain about USMC. There is also the CARC 383 or whatever they call it that i know was Army and Marine. Are there any other green colors out there that USMC would have used???

Like i said, could also throw down the camo. That option still exists. Just wanting to see you fellers thoughts on it.

Take off, eh?

AMG did not make M-151's until 1972 and then it was the A2. It would have been the same color though.

I just reread your post and you say you have an A2 made in 68. Nope, you either have an AMG made A2 made after late 1972 or you have a Ford or Kaiser A1 OR you have an A2 that has had an A1 data plate put in it.
Annnnnnd, with all of that said the Marine colors would still be as said.

Yeah, I figured something was off. My paperwork I had for it says its a 78. BUT when I pulled the engine, it had a 1968 tag on the engine. So then we started saying 68. I had a feeling it probably just had another engine dropped into it, which was common. Apparently I was right!! (i usually am not right, my GF reminds me daily).

The correct color from I know for that vintage Marine Corp jeep should be 34052 mc forest green,
This is in contrast to army 34079 forest green.
My son and I have one of each and there is a noticeable difference,
Eighties vehicles used 34094 as a base coat for 3 color camo.
For what it’s worth! This is what I learned from the Muttguru.

Old image from this site.

Personally I would go 52 for solid and 79 for camo.
