not 151 related

Unread post by Lindsay36551 » July 27th, 2018, 8:58 pm

Well, I took the step and bought a HUMVEE, great price, good street title.
It's a 998,or a 988(4 man soft top).
6.2 with a 3 speed trans.
I've put 180 miles on it so far and all I've found that needs fixing is a slightly worn pitman arm.
Going to put her through the shop , new paint, seat cushions, new guages, ac unit and artic heater,This is all stuff that I have on the shelves already.
Going to paint her usmc, forest green and use her for my painting buisness.
Pull up with that to do estamates and is a great conversation starter!
Total invested so far with everything i have described above, 11,500.00
I cant buy a decent pickup for that! :D :D :D :D :D

I would like to say that buying these HMMWVs is our present-day equivalent of buying a post war WWII Jeep....except that we few will be doing more to keep and maintain them than old Farmer Bob ever did his old MB or GPW. Do that and I predict that they will not decline in value and will be quite something to hand over to our grandsons and that's VERY cool!

Good for you Lindsay! The 4 door soft top is my favorite variant. I wanted to pick up one of the M998s hitting the market (M1031s come with a form 97 for ON road titles now) but the Commonwealth of Va just banned MVs from "on road use." Well, they're limited to 125 miles a year of "on road travel". After next July you won't even be able to antique tag an MV....

Sorry for the rant.

How will that pertain to out of state military vehicles coming into the state? Say for the Graves Mountain rally?
1964 M151A1
1984 M1008
1967 M416
04/1952 M100
12/1952 M100- Departed
AN/TSQ-114A Trailblazer- Gone

Probably won't affect anyone visiting as their MVs would be registered in their home State. This screwing is for locals only :? :(

As I understand it, if your MV (any MV) is currently antique tagged (before next July) then you're good to go (provided you adhere to the restrictions that the A-Plates have). Any MV being registered after 07/19 can only be registered (in Va) using the new "Military Vehicle" plates. Those plates are far more restrictive than the antique tags ever were.

VaDMV has already stopped issuing titles for HMMWVs in anticipation of the new regs coming into effect. Even if the vehicle already has a clear (on road) title from another State.

Think I liked this State better when it was red...

Some people make it their life's mission to use every means at their disposal, including using the full force of the government, to control others, their activities and things they may or may not buy, or what they may or may not do.

Or as David Horowitz famously said:
Inside many liberals is a totalitarian screaming to get out.
