Unread post by Cav Trooper » October 4th, 2018, 4:59 am

I have an original fire extinguisher bracket, has anyone found a modern bottle that will fit that bracket? brand name or source?
Thanks,
CT

Wow, We went over that many, many years ago and to be honest I don't remember the answer. You can click on the search function on the upper right and look for things like "fire extinguisher" or "extinguisher bracket" But like most forums you have to hit the syntax just right to find the exact posts. I have a really full day but when I get home I will see if I can fine the threads.

I've seen a few of the old ones pop up on ebay from time to time but I have not looked into a modern replacement.

Question is, do you want it for show or for safety? The NOS ones are great for originality but chances of it working to put out a fire are iffy. And you will never get it refilled. The Co2 ones are great if you can find them but again, you probably could not get it refilled due to age.

I chose an original extinguisher for my A2.
Originality wasnt as important for my son’s.
We installed a current mfr 2 1/2 pound CO2 extinguisher.

Your choice.

IMO get a new one and wrap in in a foam thin mat and hide under the rear seat. It will keep it from banging around and won't be messed with (Kids)

My plan was an original for show and a current ABC for safety, stashed on the opposite side of the gas filler, actually looking at mounting on the back of the "console" 20mm can if it's tall enough.

I wouldn't mind the road trip but it's already winter there correct? Maybe meet at a show or figure out something later. Do you happen to know the dia.? The bracket I have is NOS but the clamp is whacky and hard to get a good dimension off of it. Vin just left this morning around 11. He's got a heck of a drive to get home yet. Looks like he got some descent 1/4 tons to work with.

Thanks guys, very helpful as always.
