identifying my MUTT?

Unread post by uniform » October 16th, 2018, 9:54 pm

Hello, another Newbie Mutt owner here
I am trying to identify my MUTT. My title says M151 1969 but I question it. My BUDD # 81319 and ORD 8754459. It also has a FORT BENNING sticker on front and back bumper that has an A with a circle around it and #57870. No data plates on dash but one thats painted over on inner fender behind passenger seat. It is definitely not cut. It has straight flat fenders with signal lights on top and blackout light on fender and 2 in grill. No slave cable attachment present. The rear lights have solid onepiece red lens caps that appear to be original military issue. The odd thing is that the fenders have been extended out about 1 1/2 inch the entire length of vehicle. This is a professional job perhaps as good as factory. There is no evidence of civilian modification repainting or other. Sofar look just like military touch up here and there. Havent figured out how to post pics yet. Any help in identifying or information would be greatly appreciated.
thanks
dan

Welcome to G838. Don't have much to tell you other than it sounds like the rear lights have lenses from a M561 Gamma Goat. I have what are likely the same lenses on my M151a1.

I put the same type of lens on my151 so there would be more visible tail light glow showing so people can see you better. My sentence structure isn't the best

The person you will be looking for to do the identification is Ken the Muttguru. I am sure he will spot this in the next day or so and come back with some info for you. What you describe sounds accurate for an A1 and the extended fenders were fairly popular with four wheelers that bought these to put bigger tires on them. They also usually either cut off or bent in the original fender lips for more clearance. This was also part of the modification for the fast attack vehicles but you don't have any of the other criteria for that.

perfect, hope to hear from him
it also has a heavy 1/4 inch plate cut and shaped to fit in between the drivers and passengers seat as a trans and driveline cover that has remnant of some type of stand that was welded to it. these appear to have been cut off with cutting torch but the stumps are there and are in a triangle pattern with widest at front and point at rear . there are also two large brackets and braces bolted to each rear corner that resemble antennae brackets, a bumper extension frame about 6 inches from original placement with an older usa made manual military winch and a 2 inch diam short pipe with a bolt through it in the center of the bumper just before the grill that looks like a pipe would have been inserted into this vertically. some odd stuff that i dont understand

Don't want to get your hopes up but that first bit sounds something like the risers for the M4 machine gun mount. Post pictures if you want the best help from us.
