when did they start drafting for Vietnam

I joined the Army 0n Oct. 13 1960, My serial number started with RA standing for Regular Army, I served with many others that were Drafted and their serial numbers all started with US; When I got out in Oct of 1966 I had to go to the Draft Board and sign up for the inactive reserve, I was told I could be called back at anytime for the next 2 years.

I salute you all that served in the Vietnam War. You guys never got the treatment you so rightfully deserved.

The more I read about Robert McNamara and his Whiz Kids the more I think he (and they) needed to be shown the door. I think some of the stuff he instituted was almost criminal in its effect.

In war, numbers and slide rules certainly count but it does not come down to a mathematical equation. The whole 'body count' theorem as a method with which to determine success or failure in war was absolutely ridiculous.

If you want to see something that will really make your eyes roll toward the heavens, there's plenty on this very topic on youtube. It'll make you sick to your stomach.

I was in College in '69, with one and half years in when they started to evaluate all students and their classification. I decided to join the Navy Seabees, with plans to finish school afterwards. After I went in, they had a lottery , and of course I had a high number....we all had high numbers so we just laughed about it for what good they were to us then . When I was released from active duty, they said I can be called back up until the age of 35. This was my benchmark ! And they did call back a number of Seabees friends of mine in critical rates. I was one of the critical rates ( BU2 ), but by that time my wife and I had 4 children...so I guess that deferred me. Ha....we added a fifth child to be on the safe side. What planning !!!????!!! Still....if needed, I would of gone. SEABEE
