canvas half doors

Unread post by Mark » January 5th, 2020, 8:50 pm

Ok, I seen some canvas half doors on some mutts.I suppose a canvas top place could make them but I imagine they would need a jeep there for the measurements? But maybe not, just cut a canvas door in half.I suppose I'll contact the canvas business place in northern Minnesota.--www.newlifecanvas.com
Has anybody seen/have them?

Hi Mark. Did you ever get any info on this? I drive my A2 in the Fall and I've thought about 1/2 doors. I found this picture on line. Looks like it's made of wood.

No I didn't, the place in northern Minnesota made them out of canvas I think. But they went belly up.But I think you could take a regular canvas door, cut it in half, along with the frame, to make one.I'll see what I can find.Ya, the picture one looks like wood

That was what I was thinking - modify an existing set of doors. I have 2 sets, one set is pretty nice, the other is not so nice. There is a trail ride at the end of October that I plan on attending and I'm thinking about having something for that.

Remember that these doors do not attach with metal to the body, they attach by sliding the fabric down the channel on the body. They have the one small bar to stabilize the door and give it a pivot point but the weight in born by the fabric as much as the bar. I would think cutting a door in half and using only half the fabric would not work well. You are going to need to fabricate a filler panel like that used for the hard doors and make hinges. Talk to Dan, he made the wood doors for the ones he drove on Germany. IN THE WINTER!!!!!!

Yes, we made them out of plywood and used hood hinges to mount them, we also used the handles from the fabric doors and split a piece of water hose along the top to rest your arm on! :)
