You know you live in a rural area when............

Unread post by raymond » February 24th, 2021, 6:12 pm

As many of you know, I live in a rural farming area. The southern half of the county has a single school district out in the country. About about 400 kids pre-K through high school.

The Clopton seniors had a drive your tractor to school day today  8)

There are more around back. And a couple of girls drove tractors today :D

Times have certainly changed!! I don't see any tractors there without cabs?! I never had a cab on any of the ones I drove and winter was damn cold!!! I guarantee there would not have been that many in the lot without heated cabs. It is great to see something like that though, especially since it means that kids younger than driving age can drive to school!

Kind of hard to find a tractor over 65 horsepower that doesn't have a cab. What you aren't seeing are any large articulated pulling tractors, the kind with dual flotation tires on front and back.

I had a classmate in junior high school who drove in to school every day on an old Case tricycle tractor (no cab, northern Ohio winter). I always imagined a tricycle tractor would be no treat to drive in the ice and snow, with or without a cab, but there he was....

Now, if fellas have a Drive Your Combine To School Day, I will be REALLY impressed!

Cheers,
TJ

Combine demolition derbies are popular at county fairs in northern Missouri, Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, and other areas of the grain belt.
