If you here anything with rotors or tracks you better run for your mutt! If it is real quiet, don't even bother to check, it is already gone!

You think it is only Top and I don't you? What is Dan's screen name? Mr. Recovery? I wonder why he is called that?

I grew up on a farm so I was introduced to machines at a very young age. I was very mechanically inclined so I picked up on any type of operation or work just about instantly. I do not like sitting still so I have worked many different jobs and learned many trades along the way. all pretty much in the mechanical, fabrication, equipment type fields. When I was drafted I didn't even know about the Sea-bees and nobody mentioned it. I went from protesting the war at Fort Dix to being on the other side of the fence two weeks later in basic!! Talk about role reversal and culture shock!

Already have it hidden.......Bring it on !!!!! Ignore the signs that say "Warning ", they are meant for those that can read, and all you guys can do is use smilies. Oh and Dan , ( Mr. Recovery ), has his guns to give me cover, since I have all these Dixie Chicks protecting the Mutt. Seabee

We have Rainman to take care of the chicks and remember, Dan was ARMY before he was Air Force. Top was an engineer before he was a pilot so we know your tactics and I do it all! (Well on second thought I don't think you want me flying the chopper!!!)

Four rifles to one hammer!

Yes, i agree there is an apology due. You know it only takes one remark to set us off......but that leads to some lively threads. Now, lets get serious. Only 4 rifles ? No, lets get back to the topic at hand.Sorry, Seabee

gpready wrote:Ok, here is my attempt to decipher the posed question...

USMC M151's (to include A1 and A2's) have been know to have, but not limited to, nor responsible for (if not found on a USMC Mutt)....

-Longer front bumper with D-style rings on each end
-Fording valves unique to USMC production needs
-Windshild motor vent tube (connected to the fording valve)
-Minus lifting/tie down front hubs
-FAV applications, etc...
-No specific lettering/markings unique to standards (even though there is PM guidance for USMC Mutts...good luck finding historic documentation that Marines actually followed them) US Army seemed to be much more structured at this

I think I got all of them.

Joe,
Does the USMC front bumper match up with the Army MUTT's brackets or is fabrication required?
Do the tie down front hubs match the bolt pattern of the Army Mutt?
In other words, could I make the above two modifications to an Army Mutt and except for the data plate, most will think it was a USMC Jeep?
Rookie questions, I know......I am a rookie.
Thanks,
Joe

The rear corner brackets on the A2's are all the same regardless of branch. The Marine parts on the A1 are just added to the body but be aware that they are rust traps due to dirt and mud getting caught behind them.

Joe,
here's a photo of the USMC front bumper along with the rear corner brackets. The brackets were used on USMC M151A1 vehicles. The USMC didn't purchase any straight M151 trucks...they used the M422 Mite instead. And there was no need to fit the brackets on the A2-series....the A2 already had the lifting/tiedown shackles at the rear.

It was rumored that Ford's design for the A2 incorporated the rear shackles as a nod to the Marines' usage of their add-on brackets from the M151A1-series.

Rick's warning about the brackets is correct......they were rust-traps.....and even when the mating surfaces were properly prepared, water, especially saltwater, always found a way between the body and the brackets.

ps... that picture was originally posted by one of our members....but I can't recall who it was. :)
Kind regards....

I think the reenforcing straps on the inside of the fender for the brackets are pretty redundant at this point in the truck's life. Just one more thing to trap dirt and moisture.

Appreciate all the info. If I get an A2, if I understand all or your comments, in addition to any markings, I should plan on replacing the bumper and the eye-less wheel hub caps to cosmetically change an Army A2 to a USMC A2.
Thanks,
Joe

Depends on the time frame you want to represent. The latest A2's all came with the tie down hubs. I think the military was moving more towards uniformity in inventory and small stuff like that was just not worth keeping two different versions of to do the same job.

I thought when installing the rear corner brackets if you coated the sides that go against the body with grease that would keep out the moisture for a while. or I even thought of using seam filler they use in body shops
