Bulb, Light, 24V

Unread post by cstaup » January 5th, 2008, 7:46 pm

Or Lamp, Incandescent, 24V.

I'm getting to the point of electrical restoration on the A1. To start I have a rear wiring harness (in spirit) that has been blasted by an exhaust leak for a long time, the tape and insulation has been cooked off, this might explain a fried circut breaker. I plan to cut/splice and retape the entire harnedd (saves about 700.00).

Where could I find light bulbs? Truck stop, marine supply, NAPA??

NAPA has most any 24 VDC bulb you will need. Another place I found was the local industrial supply house (like McMaster-Carr or Familian) They had them as well. If you know someone that works at a local factory of some sort, usually they use 24 VDC bulbs. I think auto parts places (like Shucks, Pep Boys, Auto Zone, etc.) can order them, but I don't know about them actually having them in stock.

Saturn surplus and several other mutt part dealers have the bulbs, and the auto parts dealers can get them. Napa etc usually dont stock 24v bulbs though so they will probably want you to buy the whole box instead of just a couple. also the civilian bulbs have brass bases, which are more prone to corrosion than the military bulbs that have stainless steel bases.

Kevin at Star Electric has all the military bulbs you will need.
There is one nut on a M151 that is very difficult to remove.....

I second what Jim said about the milspec bulbs with the stainless steel base. I also would recommend applying a coating of electrical grease to the base before installing.
