I just made my way over from another site....

I like the idea behind this one, especially Moose's rules. The 151 is the only .mil vehicle I have right now, so this site makes it convenient.

Plus, it has a weapons forum, which seems to go in-hand with the 151. Here's a few of my favorite things:

Spike, I fixed my profile. I'm in KY.

The interesting "top" on the 416 is actually a hard top for the 151. I sold it last year to a guy in Maryland. I was transporting it for storage, and it fit pretty well in the 416.

Baios, the tires are Dayton Timberline M/T 215/85/16s. I run them on the stock rims w/out tubes. They handle great on wet and dry, and even better in the mud. I've put about 5K miles on them, but they still look like new. I think they are Load Range D, so they are about 2.5x the tire needed for a 2,400 lb vehicle.

Is the "45" your year of birth or the caliber of your favorite handgun?

I like the desert camo, it's a little different than the more modern colors. How did you come up with it?

Spike, 45 is for .45acp. Otherwise, I'd be Bryan '78. Yeah, still wet behind the ears. I didn't come up with the desert camo, it came up with me! I bought the 151 from a retired Marine. He picked it up from California back in '94, and had it parked in his barn for 10 years with intentions of restoring it. I'm glad I snagged it before he repainted it, I've really become attached to the desert camo. The bumpers still retain markings of the ARNG, and based on how old the paint appears to be, I'd say it was painted by them before it ended up in the Marine's hands.

Rainman, the top was secured to the trailer using elastomeric high-tensile safety straps, some people might know them as "bungie cords." Hey, it held....

Hey Dan! Good to hear from you. So have you installed the top?

Thanks for all the warm welcomes, guys.

Top, those are actually Hi Powers (9mm). Top left is a '44 Fabrique National made under nerd occupation. Top right is about a '69 commercial Browning. Bottom left is about a '91 commercial Browning and bottom right is a '04 commercial FN.

I don't have any real collectible .45s. Only one Colt, which some people will consider the only true .45. I use a Kimber in pistol matches, but I like just about anything that goes bang.

Bryan

Nice High Powers. I always like the lines of one. Just about anything that Browning or FN made bore the mark of quality and was very aesthetically pleasing in design. I think it is a better looking pistol than just about anything except maybe a Walther P38. I used to have a wartime High Power model, only made by Ingliss in Canada. It was a sloppily made piece of crap. I traded it in for a Browning Challenger .22 target pistol a long time ago. I always thought it was interesting that both sides of WW2 were in some instances equipping their troops with the very same weapon. I have a friend around here with a German occupation High Power. His father brought it back as a war trophy from Europe in 1945. It has the rear tangent sight and is slotted for a shoulder stock. While it has all the nerd proof marks, it still has Browning and the U.S. city and state that were engraved in the slide in pre war models.

A little short history lesson on the HP:

Slide markings didn't change while the Germans were running the plant. I guess they didn't see the need to modify the dies. Too many more pressing issues to deal with like exterminating other races....

Image

As you can see even on this late war pistol, it still has "Browning's Patent Depose", but there isn't a City/State marking like the post war Hi Powers had.

Browning Arms import of the Hi Power to the US didn't start until about '54. At that time, they began to be marked "St. Louis/ Montreal" for Browning's two North American offices.

A slotted frame/tangent sight HP with nerd markings is a very desirable piece. If your buddy hasn't done so yet, I would recommend he document how his father came upon the pistol. I would hope that he would never sell the gun, due to the sentimental value, but when his father is gone, it would be nice to have a record of it's travels.

God Bless all those brave young men that did what needed to be done, in that war and all others.
