Starting My 62 M151 Resto

Postby bhm1jvg on February 7th, 2010, 12:31 am

Thanks for all of the info from my previous post "Mutt Identification". I am ready to start tearing down and wanted to know where I can get one of those rotisseries and how much can I expect to pay for one. Looks like it would make the job easier. Could I rent one, or maybe I need to befriend the local body shop owner! I will need some other parts when we start going back together. Any info is appreciated.

Here's a site I bookmarked a while ago: http://www.earlycj5.com/technical/body- ... otisserie/

The guy says the construction materials cost just $150.

No snow here! Only rain for the past month, seems like every day. I am starting my teardown. Here are a few Pictures.

As you can see, someone before me, modified the rear wheel well. I assume for larger tires. I definitely have to fix this. Any suggestions. My thoughts are to cut the missing areas from another 151 and weld into place on mine. Any other suggestions????

By the way, I do plan on ordering up some sun for next week as I am on Vacation from my day job and will be diving deep into this 151. Any pictures of straight 151's would be appreciated, they have been hard to come by.

I have to say that the wheel well modification was well done, not like most of the hack jobs I have seen. You will definitely have to weld in another panel section but you might find them hard to come by. Most of the later demills had the rear sections crushed with a tracked vehicle to prevent rewelds. You can get replacement side panels from Fla-tactical. The side panel is the same for both sides so you could order one and cut it in half and use one half on each side.

Welcome to the board. Hard to tell for sure in your photo but it looks as if the grill is from an a-2.

keep an eye out on craigs list. Seems there is some on there occasionaly usuallly pretty run down.

This is a good search engine for craigslist. Just use military as the search term.
