ANTI-SMOKING/TOBACCO LAWS

Unread post by 64 M151 » February 7th, 2008, 8:46 pm

Anti-smoking laws needs to go away because they are infrenging on our right to smoke or use tobacco. In all it is nothing more than being discrimortory to smokers & tobacco users. Maybe we need to file a discrimination law suit against our law makers.

Yes! I think there should be Anti-tobacco laws in place for certin public places but I think it has gone to the extream when banning it from bars, clubs, casinos, outside/inside events, resturants, vehicles, homes and even outside in general.

Most of these laws are stupid like banning tobacco use in a indoor sports arena where motor sports are being held. One would think that CO2 cause more harm and faster than second hand smoke. But not according to our doctors, scientest & law makers. CO2 lingers displacing Oxygen where smoke rises but CO2 is no concern but second hand smoke is a concern.

In general I don't know where scientist got the idea that second hand smoke causes lung cancer. I grew up with it in all my younger/teen age years when my mom, dad (cigars), uncle smoke and they would take us kids to bars and when you open the doors the smoke would roll out like thick fog.

Well Im 51 and still here and still smoking as well as my sisters, brother & dad. My mom did pass away but it was brain cancer that did her in and not lung cancer. Every body has has a cancer gene but it takes something physical, mental, chemical to activate it.

I remember when society was dirty but cleaner and now we are trying to be clean but getting dirtier.

Just my wooden nickles worth.

I personally hate tobacco smoke. We have stringent smoking laws in my state. Before those laws I wouldn't go into restaurants that allowed smoking. I think you should be able to smoke anywhere that you want so long as it doesn't affect anyone else. I do smoke cigars sometimes when I go fishing just to keep the skeeter off of me. I do not allow anyone to smoke in my house, shop or vehicles. I personally cannot think of one logical reason to use tobacco, except maybe to keep skeeters off of you. I had an aunt that smoked for almost seventy-years, and was a horrible alcoholic. She lived to be 85 ~ go figure. I support your rights to smoke as long as you support my rights to not have to breath or smell your smoke. Sounds fair to me.

I think it should be up to the business owner. Illinois just outlawed indoor smoking and smoking within 15(?) feet of an entrance. Some of the major bars and casinos on the east side of St. Louis have built outdoor areas for their customers to smoke, making sure that it was fenced in so that a customer could not leave with a drink etc, that way the door could not be construed as an entrance. Now some anti-smoking groups are sueing to prevent this saying that they can't go outside in these areas to enjoy the fresh air as there are smokers there. The thing is, this is just for smoking, as there are no waitresses, etc. And several of these establishments already had an existing nicer patio complete with outdoor heaters, bar, waitresses, and other amenities where smoking is not allowed and is away from the outdoor smoking area. Some people just want to regulate every moment of others lives. I quit smoking cigarettes 19 years ago but still enjoy an occasional cigar. Usually outdoors when farming, boating, at the beach, marina, or other such areas.

Ohio outlawed indoor workplace smoking last year and countless bars restaurants and bowling alleys since have gone out of business. Raymond your are right, it should be up to the business owner (as I am one) to make the rules. It's his/her feggin shop, let the owner do as they please. The state didn't do all the work to make the business operate, (but do hinder it).

I personnaly dont smoke or use tobacco. But my guys do and I could give a rats a$$ if they smoke at work or not. Of course not at a customers location, but at our office , shop etc. I'm fine with it, just keep the ashtrays clean and don't burn the place down. Tahs a whole different story.

They said that all these businesses were going to fold when they banned smoking in bars restaurants and so forth in our state. It just didn't happen. People go outside and have their cigarette. Other patrons and employees don't have to breath secondhand smoke or go home smelling foul. I won't infringe on your rights if you won't infringe on mine. By and large most businesses applaud the law.

This video proves that smoking kills. Very graphic! Only view if you have a strong stomach :
