M151 Convoy Light

Unread post by mrdibbles » March 20th, 2008, 5:51 pm

Does anyone have a manual, or installation instructions, or even pictures of this light in service? It was removed recently from a box stating it's use is for the M151 series vehicle.

Nice light

Hey MrD,
I want one! Very nice Matt. Looks to be a pretty standard pole
mount convoy revolver. Have seen them mounted on pole
brackets on the drivers side windshield hinge area, and on rear
corner brackets, either side. To be sure it is a 24V
convoy/warning light!

Matt, I think it would put off more light if you mounted it there next to the fire screen, rather than down on the hearth like that...

If I recall the last time I saw a discussion about those, it was a "wherever is most expedient" sort of mounting. I say the rear, off a corner mount would look pretty nice.

Doesn't someone here have an Air Police A2 with a blue light on it? Dave?

I've seen pictures of both mounted on the drivers side windshield area and on the rear corner using the antenna tower. I think the "official" way was by the windshield, but I think the motor pool SGT said put it here was also common.

I have one picture but not in electronic form of a m151a1 with the convoy follows sign on the windshield and the light mounted on the drivers side rear corner looks like it's bolted to the outside (drivers side) of the corner.

I also have another non-electronic picture of an m15a2 MP jeep with a pole mounted drivers side windshield, but it has a smaller light on it while the one in the above mentioned picture is more like your light.

So do what you think is best.... :)
There is one nut on a M151 that is very difficult to remove.....

convoy light

Unread post by m151dave » March 21st, 2008, 3:00 pm

I have a convoy beacon on my USAF mutt. Mounted on the left rear corner using an antenna corner bracket and upright. The light is mounted to the "scoop" portion of the antenna mount using an aluminum disk I cut out from some scrap I had laying around. A pretty good shot of it here. I will look for a close-up of the beacon. BTW - got the beacon from Coleman surplus a few years back.

I did the same thing as Dave on mine... except i made my adapter plate out of a piece of scrap steel...the pole mounted alongside the windshield was the "official" mutt convoy light, and eventually was a strobe which was much smaller than the revolving mars light. In actual practice though motor pools tended to put whatever they had on whatever way they thought looked good, so your options are wide open. i favor the rear corner drivers side because in my mind thats where it would be most effective.

Warning Light

Unread post by Flyboy740 » March 22nd, 2008, 2:32 pm

I have been looking at lights in different catalogs and have found several (in the $70 - $100 range) that look like those we used in the military. My reasoning for wanting one was more awareness when I'm on the road. I've got the old style brake lights and don't want to change them.

Hello dibbs,

Here's the only documentation I could find. I've already copied it to Adrian W.

Image

A year or so ago, I posted an identical request for installation instructions over on the G503 but nothing came of it.

I'm sure that the fitting instructions for various vehicle types are included with the boxed kit but no-one seems to have a copy (I think TNJMurray had kits a couple of years ago).

Anyway, if anyone has a copy of the fitting instructions....I'd be happy to swap/trade/buy if necessary.
Kind regards....
Ken
