We lost GR Webster today - aka Top Tiger
Hey Guys-
I have real sad news to convey. Today we lost GR. He was Top Tiger to all of us and he made this forum a great place. Years of membership, stories, and encouragement. He became a friend of mine, and to many of us, through this forum, side phone calls, and private e-mails with his random quirky thoughts. I knew you would all be touched by this so I wanted to share. My thoughts go to his family, wife, and kids. I haven't been knocked down by news like this in a very long time. GR I will miss you. War hero, friend, and very very cool dude.

Rest in peace Top. We will surely miss you.
Re: We lost of GR Webster today - aka Top Tiger
Top was a friend and an inspiration to a lot of us. He sent me an e-mail about a month ago telling me that he had some balance issues and a troubling cough while on vacation and went for testing. Then he said he had gone through the radiation and was going to start chemo and was very positive about the outlook. In the same sentence he told me that he should have died when he was wounded along with his crew in Vietnam and he considered the last 40 years a gift and he had no regrets. That was Top, Matter of fact and to the point. He would never involve anyone in his problems. He would call me from some of the most unlikely places, Africa, Swiss Alps, Frederics house in France or from his own home in France. The reason? He was bored and wanted to talk Mutts. Or boats, or airplanes. Every show I would go to I could count on Top calling sometime during the show to see how things were. I will miss those calls. I never got to meet Top in person but I feel like I know him as if I did. He will be greatly missed on here and many other forums he was involved with.

This is the type of man he was....A few years back I remembered a post of his flying a seaplane...not even sure what board it was on but my son needed a used head set to trade in on a new set...as he was in flight school...this man sent me at his expense an almost new set of dave clarks....and like rick says other than a few conversations and postings we never met face to face but he was a great man...I trust he will always be remembered here and I am sure he will be sadly missed by many...May you fly with the angles and God be with you Top

Re: We lost GR Webster today - aka Top Tiger
I had the pleasure of meeting Top at his place here in Florida, I drove over and spent most of a full day with him and we had lunch at a local Mom and Pop place in Frostproof.I had the joy of seeing all his toys and even got to take one out on a 1/2 hour run for him or as he put it, "exercise the horses" I had hoped to be able to do it again. He will be missed.
Here are a few photos of that day, Top Tiger (in the blue shirt) and myself. Rest in peace Top.

Yes, I heard about his illness just before Christmas but he sounded pretty positive.
As most know, I have met him and his family in person last August in France, so that makes it even harder

Sad news !
in last december when GR inform me about his health problem, I was'nt thinking that the situation was so seriously...This man was so generous when I remember with Richard and Horst, his hospitality at the end of our Alps Tour 2013 in his property of Grasse in South of France.
GR considered that he was a surviving of the life after his helicopter crash in 1968 during the Vietnam war, also since 45 years,he appreciate each day more... the US Veteran understand,I think.
Staying optimistic, in our last contact, GR answer me:"Old Mutt and Old Veteran are unbroken, No ?"
Adieu Geoffrey

though i never met him, it's sad to lose another vietnam vet---the courage displayed by chopper pilots was well known.

Re: We lost GR Webster today - aka Top Tiger
Top and I met several years back when he and his family came to the Cape for a short stay.
He drove from Chatham to Falmouth just to meet.probably forty miles in summer traffic.
I was taken back by this gesture from someone as busy as he.
Met his wife and his child albeit briefly.
Had lots of contacts with him over the years because he was always willing to post pictures here for me.
Top, we will miss you.

I only knew him from the posts of his I've read over the past several months. And from a few PMs he sent me helping a noob on the forum. But even from this little contact, you can spot a good and honorable man.
Rest in Peace, "Mustang 6."

I found this photo of a scale model online. It was apparently assembled by a Greek or Russian--I can't read the language in the copious notes included here: http://www.dishmodels.ru/gshow.htm?p=1530 I know GR was an accomplished and professional scale-model maker, so perhaps he was involved in this model-making effort.
I included the scale-model photo here initially because it was a product of a Google "Mustang 6" search, but it in fact appears to be a re-creation of TopTiger's Huey from 1968. In those online notes are these three photos (which may have come from the 68th AHC website), the third of which appears to show GR in the left seat. Increase the size of the image and judge for yourself.
