I just bought my first M151...
Aloha Gang,
I am VERY excited.
I re-started collecting Vietnam War related items the past two years and joined both a military vehicle club and living history group out of Columbia South Carolina. Those two groups are called the Military Timeline Inc and the Military Vehicles Collectors Club of South Carolina. I then made a choice to try and find a vehicle I could drive and have fun in at the events. I bought a 1984 CUCV Blazer and drove it as a daily driver for a year and a half before having a few electrical problems and deciding that diesel was a bit out of the range of my mechanical skill set. So I sold the CUCV and decided that I would purchase an M151 so that I could both enjoy it at the vehicle events but also use it for the Vietnam Living History impressions I had been working on the last two years. I was searching the internet for an M151 to call my very own when I came across this forum, so I joined and began my quest to find the right M151 for me.
Two weeks ago I was looking at ads for M151s and came across two for sale on ebay. Come to find out they were in Logansville GA, less than two hours away from me in Augusta, so I sent the guy an email and we made a deal.
So I am now the proud owner of a 1972 Ford and a 1974 AM General, both M151A2s, I am so excited about the M151s I must say.
I will be selling one and keeping one, a fellow club member has already asked to buy my reject so unless he ends up not wanting it, it is already gone. I will post the pictures of them here and the progress as I get mine back on the road.
AIRBORNE ALL THE WAY!
Brad

A 72 Ford would be the very last of the Fords. They stopped mid year and went to AMG. Are you sure it is a Ford?

Thanks, the body on the 1974 is in pretty good shape, it is the one I will be keeping, but I am sure I will need something one day. Thanks for the post.

Re: I just bought my first M151...
Are you talking about the data plate number when you say VIN? If it is a Ford there should be a BUDD tag welded to the cowl right above the valve cover, That would indicate a Ford built vehicle. Data plate were swapped quite often, even in service when vehicles were "Borrowed" from another unit. There is no factory VIN on these vehicles, only the body build tag and the military issued data plate.Brad Owens wrote:According to the VIN it is a 1972 Ford.

Rick,
I just used the data plate on the inside front dash. I will look under the hood and see what it says. Thanks for the information, I get a feeling I will be learning more than I ever imagined now that I own one.
