'New' find - opinions please

Unread post by fergrn37 » April 14th, 2016, 5:56 pm

Found an uncut non-cancerous A2. Well a couple of spots under the gas tank about the size of a quarter. No Data plate, ROPS plate, weight and balance plate, heater instruction plate.
I presume it is an AMG, horn tag is 6-72. No s/n plate on tunnel. Spare tire holder number stamp is 2?31.
Engine contract # DAAE06-68-C-0001.

Comes with two(2) soft tops, both complete. One as new, the other well aged. Also comes with a 'spare' power pack. Power pack is an early version with the bell housing manual starter plate/cover. Has original jack and lug wrench. What is the thing that looks like a hacksaw blade with no teeth used for? Original tool roll has turned to crumbs. ROPS installed. An 'as new heater, not installed.

Vehicle runs and moves under it's own power, bad master cylinder, but includes a new replacement. Many layers of brushed on paint, was unable to get down to the hood numbers. Gas tank appears to most likely be toast.

No title. Would be a double Bill of Sale, should not be to large an issue in OK.
$4k.

Opinions please. I'll try to get pics up.

Ken it would appear that I didn't take all the proper pix. Does have side scuppers and scalloped front fenders, no BUDD tag. How is the AMG tunnel tag attached? Might be overloaded with paint but I doubt it. Unit is over two hours away, one way.

The engine on the floor appears to be a pretty early engine. It has he early bell housing and it appears that the trans and bell have never been apart. Kind of looks like the bell has never been off the motor either. From what I can see it appears to be worth the money but I question why there are no data plates or tags at all, almost like someone is trying to hide something. If that gas tank on the floor is out of that vehicle then it is a pre-emissions vehicle so I would say probably late 72--early 74.

It looks very solid {thats the important part,
The spare power pack is questionable though.

you won't know how good it is until you have it.
It,s running and driving that,s a plus but check out the 4 wheel drive .

seeing the master cylinder is shot prepare for complete brake job with new wheel cylinders etc.
I would try to chip it down to $3200 to $3500 due to the rust issues etc.

It will need quite a bit of work to get it fairly straight

Over all it's seems like a decent find.

good luck with the purchase

After seeing it pop up on Craig's not long ago, I have internally debated with myself on whether or not to give up the '60 to someone else who would RESTORE it for this one which would seem less work/less money and safer to drive. Talk them down a lil if you can and get it before I do something I'll regret.

Update ... looks like the listing was deleted by author. Did you get it?

Surveyor - not yet. Seller is giving me a couple of days to get all you guys to chime in and help me out, :)

rickf - Big yes to that. Guy claims it was from a 1/4 mile racer. Those are Edelbrock finned aluminum heads too!

The Edelbrocks are what caught my eye! Doesn't happen to have multiple Stromberg carbs does it? Ask him to throw that in the deal!

I hear they are sending him off to one of those area 51 type places soon to rebuild him. They have the technology. They can make him better than he was. Better, stronger, faster ... so he can rebuild even more carbs.

No, I was just wondering when you said it was a drag engine. I know guys that would give their left testicle to get that engine!
