First down secondary roads

Image
Some of which were better than others...

Image
Steadily increasing convoy speeds ever watching the temp gauges and seeing how the trucks felt and the diffs howled...

Image
Stopping of course at Chicken Annies!  M882 #706 was along as well to drop off a load of heaters.

Image
On into the night...  (Started off at 1:00 P.M.)

Image
Got in at around 8:00 PM, not the most photogenic hour so this is the next morning.

Image
We even made use of this convienent and period correct EM-50 Urban Assault Vehicle to sleep in which was even more comfortable than sleeping in the back seat of an M151.

Overall trip was a little over 200 miles, all went off without a hitch other than the one time I flipped the lever on the light switch to Park on accident and turned off the headlights.   No heating up, no drive line troubles, no (unusual) funny noises no nothin.

Success!  Glad it took till the last East Wind to finally self deploy a 151 series truck...

I'll bet the guy who sold this truck would never believe that it just did a road trip like that.

Good work guys. I don't know if I would have tried it myself. Then again, being a bit younger then me you guys are also a bit more adventurous.

We had a reasonable safety margin built in. Being tailed by the M882 gave us some visibility, being led by slowest truck kept us pacing well, solid radio comms kept us communicating well (the M882 and 6001 are both radio trucks, the M718 just picked up a PRC-77 to join in) and several rest/check breaks let us keep an eye on everything.

As a backup, we had the medium tow bar with the M151 tow feet tucked in the M882 as well.

By hook or by crook, we were going to make it there.
