SC M151A1 Project

Unread post by SturmTyger380 » June 19th, 2016, 7:34 am

Now that I am starting work on the M151 I thought I would start a new thread so you guys can see what's going on.

I will post when I can but have other projects going on too. Subject M151A1

Since the weather was cooler and dry this Fathers day weekend I decided to clean out the passenger side floor of the M151.

After blasting the passenger floor board this is what I see. Some rust spots that need to get rusty primer to protect.

Here is the battery box. It had a little rust through on the floor I will have to repair when I get time.

I had to go ahead and prime it to prevent new rust. I can see some holes over on the side of the tool box that need to be welded.

All things considered given the age and the tendency to rust I think overall not too bad.

That is a good looking jeep, don't see many with minimum rust, funny how those early windshields keep popping up, good luck on the project, good looking M211 also. Hambone

That's hat I call smart blasting, No need to strip all the paint from the good parts just to say you did it. Blast the suspect areas and rough up the rest and done. Less mess and less waste.

Today in the afternoon I had a chance to blast the drivers side.

Here is the fuel tank area. Not bad.

Here is the problem area.

That seam is all rusted and you can see the ground through it. Plus the rusted area where your feet rest has a lot of pin holes.

What needs to be the plan here? Do I need to find a front drivers floor and use parts of it to weld in? Do I need to go ahead and plan on doing a rotisserie job?

If the underbody looks as good as the rest, I would get a front floor from Guy and patch the rest, you're way ahead of the game with the body.

So I laughed when I saw this picture. Notice the lower area on the tool box divider that extends into the center frame rail. See the large gap? When I did the test piece of our panel it looked the same way and mine was cut so I could not tell how well the original fit. I tightened the gap and put in a radius to keep it to a minimum. Looks like that was a waste of time! I have a tendency to get carried away with details!
