EH, Yea, I see all the chicks are all looking the other way. Wonder why?   The Kenya picture is a little more becoming. Never been there and no desire to go there.

Jambo! Tis a stinky place. Smells like....rhino poop, zebra droppings all mixed up with African flowers.... It's something earthy and something I cannot quite identify. Naturally, I don't go wandering about very much when I'm there because I don't want to become a statistic. :) :P

Today, I assisted Dave in getting the power pack stuffed in his truck. He is SO close! Hopefully we'll wrap it up tomorrow.

Before leaving I took him for a quick ride in my truck which predates his only by a few months - both are 1970 Fords, his has emissions and mine does not. Anyway, I've been living with a most annoying rattle and I wanted a fresh perspective on it because I was simply getting nowhere with it. Well, he had it nailed down straightaway which is a testament to the benefits of not trying to do everything yourself. (guilty as charged)

So, here's the skinny. If you have a rattle that sounds like the whole rear panel is about to come off your truck, have a look at the u-bolts at the exhaust hangers. As it turned out mine had a loose one, second from the rear, and despite the fact that everything else was well anchored, there was just a terrific clatter, particularly when I'd let the clutch out.

Naturally, now that I've cleared that up, I can now hear about three or four other smaller rattles!

Cheers,
TJ

WHOA! 151's did not have emissions until 73 if I remember correctly. If Ken sees this he will verify or correct but I know they did not have emissions in 70. His may not be a real 70.

To verify it's aFord:

1, does it have a Budd tag under the hood?
2 no sde drains: if it does it's an AMG.
3, Ford produ tion ended befor emissions came out.

Know of lots A2s wih Ford data-plates so it really doesnt mean anything.

Yeah, it's a FrankenMutt. But OH!...it's very pretty and it runs like a top! I drove it! Brakes are frighteningly marginal and we found out why. It has some wheel cylinders with short little bleeders that you can't possibly get to. Soooo, whoever put them in there clearly was unable to bleed the brakes. That explains it.

Tomorrow we'll pull some bleeders off the Alley Cat and see if they'll fit his wheel cylinders.

And then there's the clutch adjustment. His clutch has a much softer pedal than mine and when depressed it isn't fully disengaged as it won't go into first (grinds) which means something is still going round and round in there. He said his new clutch disc was much thicker than what he had taken out. Anyone have any thoughts or experience with that situation?

Cheers,
TJ

Could the clutch disk be in backwards? One side is marked flywheel.
It would cause he clutch shaft to stick and not allow things to completely disengage.
Just a thought.

Nope, that's in correctly but as I said earlier, he mentioned that the disk was somewhat thicker than the original one.

The thing is, there's not even enough grab there to cause the truck show any signs of wanting to move forward and yet, there's that first gear grind (unsynchronized) and I think that can only mean that the shaft is still turning, right? ....Or not right?

Had a sudden catastrophic clutch failure years ago with a mushy pedal and poor grip.
Come to find out the cushion springs onthe disk had failed.
Some pieces were wedged between the disk and flywheel and pressure plate.
Sounds like ts time for an engine removal.

No, we just carefully inspected and reinstalled everything. That's not it. I'm beginning to wonder if this isn't the wrong clutch disc.

There was some talk that there were clutch plates than had differng tensions .
I would als question the tension spring adjustment on the pressure plate.
As an aside am going to check the dimensions of both the fibre and puck style disks.

When I went from a puck to fiber disc with the same pressure plate (don't ask, long story) the adjustment never changed so they must be the same.
