The cowls & cowl vent area were always a sore spot for rust with the M37 trucks...

I will have to check around the vent for any bondo but it looks solid.

The patch looks good Rick, what gauge metal is the body made of?

The cowl at least appears to be 18 or 20, I haven't cut into a good solid section yet. Once I trim back the rust before I weld in the patch I will have a better idea. The fenders are lighter than I thought. I was thinking of the older WC's that had probably 16 ga. fenders. These are substantially lighter.

Well, A fellow member posted in the classifieds "Free parts". I NEVER, Ever, get in on these deals but I called him and he asked if I was serious and could I come tomorrow? I said yes and yes and the deal was done. Thanks Jared. I haven't worked that hard in quite a while plus the damn truck locked up a front caliper on me in traffic on 95 on the way home but it was worth it.
Here is the haul, I am far to sore to unload it today. Probably pushed a bit too hard after back surgery a few months ago but free is free!

Does anybody recognize that seat bottom? It has a pivot bracket on the sides and is not the same shape or size as the m37 passenger seat. If someone recognizes it or needs it let me know. I will get better pictures as I unload stuff.

Wonder if that seat bottom isn't the passenger's seat out of an M35 (M211)? I think they flipped up....

From what he told me it had 6,000 miles on it when he got it. No title, the frame is immaculate! The original owner started to restore it and lost interest. There will be some good stuff there, I got a full diff gear set and a transmission and the transfer case is still in it. Steering box is still there. he rear of the frame and rear suspension is all like brand new. I wish I got this before I tore into that cowl, there is the cowl he cut off and more importantly is the inner supports which are both in real good shape. I may put that stuff all aside for the future body off resto. Start cleaning it all up now and have it ready for then. He had mentioned to me that the seat bottom may be for the ambulance version.

No. I have a lot of stuff that is going to be leaving very soon. I am going to have to start listing stuff on Craigslist as much as I hate dealing with the riff raff that comes with that.

I don't know why but apparently Photobucket has released my pictures at least temporarily. I am going to go through and replace as many as I can before they disappear again. This is a test of the new app I am trying so they will all be together.

Been trying to get some work done on the 37 and I just saw all the pictures are gone from the previous post. I went back to my Postimage album and they are gone from there too so I don't know what happened.
When I last left it I had moved it to the back yard because I needed the garage for another project. When I went to bring it back in it would not start and then I saw liquid coming out around the front seal and realized the fuel pump had gone out and put a bunch of gas in the crankcase. So it sat until a few weeks ago when I got under it to drain the oil and get it going again. Lets just say it is a good thing I do not video what I do because it turns out there was 3 1/2 gallons of oil in the crankcase! Luckily I had put down a tarp to keep the ticks off of me while I was doing the oil change and it caught the mess. Problem is that I WAS ON THE TARP!!!!!!!!!! Needless to say the drain pan was neither in the right place nor was it big enough. Definitely would have been entertaining to anyone with not so tender ears. So I pulled the oil filter out of the can and also sucked all the oil out of there and put the old filter back in, the oil was so thin it just poured right out of the filter. Filled the oil filter canister with oil and then filled the engine and cleaned all the plugs and it fired up. You want to talk about smoke!!! All that oil/gas mix that went down the exhaust as it ran past the valves was burning off. Got it around to the garage and drained the pan and filter again and filled with new oil again and it is holding 50 lbs. pressure at idle so no harm was done. I guarantee the inside of this engine is spotless now! Got the bed unbolted and only had one bolt break, not bad for 66 year old bolts! Got the bed off yesterday and pulled the drain plug on the gas tank today and es there was still some kind of 20 year old liquid in there. It was NASTY! I put some in a pan and it took a torch to light it, sort of like lighting oil without a wick. It did not even completely burn. Tank is not too bad, found a few holes under the top straps. Found a hole in the bottom sump area that someone tried to fix with epoxy, actually it probably worked for many years till the epoxy flaked off a bit. The hole actually looks like it was drilled. Pulled the top off the tank and there is a 1/2 inch layer of goo on the bottom but under the goo is nice clean shiny steel. so i put the cover back on till I can get in there and scrape and clean the whole thing. I am thinking most of the crude on the bottom is rust from the top so I really need to tap around it and see if I go through in more places. I am planning on sealing the tank but it needs to be clean first and the bigger holes have to be repaired.
