Turns out that even though the parcel was accepted someone en route decided it was 0.5cm (about 1/5”) too long so it was returned to sender!

NUTS!

Has held up the engine reassembly five weeks so far and still waiting...

Well, all done at last! Will get my roadworthy inspection done later this week and then it can be registered and on the road!!

The electric fuel pump works great and the engine starts immediately although we did have yhe timing off by180 degrees at first :(

Thanks Rick. There were times when I started to despair, especially as there was a continual discovery of costly problems, but I am looking forward to driving it - my Christmas present!

Well it is now registered for road use and making me smile daily. As it has been in captivity for so long I decide to set it free but managed to capture a couple of photos as it sniffed out its natural environment...

I took off the fording snorkel and exhaust pipe and have to get an extension made. Figured I was never going to drown the MUTT especially as all the fording kit was not installed. And I figured it was better to have clearanc plus be able to fit the door in the tropical downpours...

It seemed to go away, that is, I replaced the temperature and oil pressure gauges with capiliary ones. The oil pressure runs up to 60psi but drops to 20psi on idle and a bit lower when the oil is warm. I will have to keep an eye it to see if it drops further on the hot days (temp has cooled to about 85F). If so I have some 40-70 oil I will try. It is possible that the gauge we were using has a slight blockage that makes it drop to zero when the pressure is around 15 or less psi.

The gauges are not original, of course, but match pretty well. I have painted red the bulbs they use and wired them to the 24V that was used for the temp gauge. They look pretty much the same as the illumination on the original gauges but are on whenever the ignition is on - that's no drama.

I will use the 24V for the other gauge as the input to a press switch. The output will connect to one of the unused leads from the instrument panel to the sensor and will connect to a 24V washer pump which I will fit under the bonnet.

I am contemplating replacing the foot starter switch with a button to a 24V relay of the correct amperage mainly because I find that switch is a pain to operate. I will wait until I have used the MUTT for a while before making a decision as it may be that it gets easier once I am used to it.

Going with super heavy oil is not a solution for an oil pressure problem, it is only a band aid and one that can cause other problems. It takes a long time for that heavy oil to circulate to the top end and not only that there will not be very much of it circulating up there. Get yourself a good quality mechanical gauge and check it with 15W-40 or straight 30W oil in there and see what it is saying. You can go as low as 10 lbs. at idle but 30-35 at road speed is required. 60 is what I see on 20*F days when I first start. If you have a oil pressure relief spring problem then changing oil weights is not going to solve anything. The spring is designed to maintain the pressure below a certain maximum, if it is wide open then it is not allowing pressure to build at low RPM regardless of what the gauge is saying.
