Update on China wheel cylinders

Unread post by dauntless225 » August 14th, 2017, 1:02 pm

Bought a set of wheel cylinders from Brent Mullins. Made in China. Had a front wheel locking up when depressing brake pedal. Adjusted and re-adjusted. Wasted my time. Sometimes it would work great for a day or so. Start locking up again. Took drum off and slowly depress pedal and sure enough one of the pistons is hanging up. I'm not even going to hone it out ,going to buy NOS US made cylinders. What a waste of money on this crap. He says US manufacture.

Black springs on top, blue on bottom. Bonded shoes. Is this correct?

Springs are correct.
The adjusters should also be blue:

Fil The adjusters are silver. After checking funds, I had no choice but to remove it and I honed the heck out of it. Seems to be working so far. I guess in defense of these cylinders, even NOS ones can have a piston stick. We'll see what it does. This is going to be a daily driver so I have to have the brakes top notch. This is my last military Jeep to put on the road. After 47 years of them, age and health has caught up and this is it.

Bit the bullet and ordered all US made ones from Red River Parts. I'm going to change all the China junk out and in the trash they go or will sell them cheap. PM if interested.

For what its worth I would install the correct blue adjusters for bonded brakes.
Also have the retainer clips for you.

Just got in 4 propeller shaft u-joints from Midwestjeep. Price looked good based on free shipping but when they arrived.... Newstar - made in China. Anybody have good luck with these? I see a previous thread that said the axle ones were the wrong size but nothing mentioned on these.

The ones we were talking about being the wrong ones were civilian u-joints, not the replacements from China. Newstar used to be in Thailand, I guess they have moved to China now? The very same Newstar company make a LOT of parts for the trucking industry. Good parts at that. They will make whatever quality people will; buy, if you buy cheap, they will continue to make cheap.
