panel removal

Unread post by Lindsay36551 » September 18th, 2017, 7:33 am

Hey all , looking for some advice on panel removal on the latest project I'm working on(m151 a1)
I've tried every method I can come up with to remove the spot welds.
Belt sander, drill, spot weld bits. I am waiting for a spot weld cutter to arrive tomorrow.
What is the best way to separate the panels after the weld have been cut?
Where can I purchase a cleco kit?
I have to remove the entire rear section of the vehicle, do I do this as a whole unit(less drilling) or one panel at a time? fender tops, rear panel, rear fender sides, front
fenders.
I also will be sandblasting the entire vehicle, should I do this prior to drilling or should I wait until I have all panels removed , to gain better access to hard to get to areas.
This is my first foray into panel removal and re-welds.
I'm both nervous and excited at the same time, as it will increase my ability to save more of these little beauty's in the future!
Thanks for all your input!

You really need to consult with Ipcoating. He's the master at that. Ordinarily, you would have only had to consult his wonderful thread on his restoration but, alas, there was that meltdown with Photobucket. :( At the very least you should PM him, because it sounds like the biggest issues are going to be keeping everything square.

There will soon be instructions posted for Postimg.org if you are not already using them. This is one of those deals where your having posted pics is going to be worth its weight in gold. I strongly suggest you do because with that, you'll get the best answers.

Cheers,
TJ

Just doing a little surfing and found this interesting little tidbit on spotweld removal. I think I am going to try it.

And if you use Chrome as your browser there is a fix so you can see all of the old photobucket pictures that were blocked.

TJ, As soon as you post that tutorial up let me know and I will sticky it where the photobucket one used to be. I might see if I can put it on all of the forums.
