Re: My M 151 A1 Restoration Project
Still trimming out floors on the passenger side. Used the seat to set the location of the front floor per earlier post. This thing drives me nuts. I was seeing some alignment issues and measurements that I did not like. So, I ran a string to verify that the seat was sitting "straight" in the truck. Looks pretty good so the location and position of the seat support is set. Notice the gap on the inside of the floor board where it meets the toe board. I was seeing this on the back side and as the outside edge sets this position I'll modify the toe board to fit up better in this area. Nothing is straight on these things! I'm sure the X cut didn't help. I'll deal with...
Cutting for the panel offset:
Using clamps, 18ga and a hammer to make offset:
This way the side sits flush on the seam:
Notice the gap in the corner:

Now that I look at these pictures some more and then the picture of the string line on the rear fender top it makes sense as to why the floor is meeting up with the toe board that way. Guess I need to lower my tolerance standards when it comes to fixing an "X" cut.

Yup. It's easy to get derailed by the details. Your circumstance reminds me of an experience with a range instructor I once had. I was getting all wrapped around the axle about some minor detail and he said, "Just shoot the damned target!" So, I did.

There goes your side panel, Rick, tack it up , Guy, it looks good.

Yea, lower my tolerances, Right. That would be like asking any redblooded American male to dump cold beer down the sink and put ketchup on steak! AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN!

Re: My M 151 A1 Restoration Project
Made some more progress on the passenger side front floor over the weekend. I painted the seam areas with POR yesterday and it's now ready to be welded in place.

Damn it must be nice to have access to an unlimited supply of sheet metal, even if you have to pay for it. I have to drive a LONG ways to get it.

There must be a law in Jersey that you can never have enough of anything.....metal suppliers.....shells in yer shotgun.....etc.
Re: My M 151 A1 Restoration Project
We have metal suppliers, just not near me. The one I deal with is huge so when I go there I am squeezed in with all the big trucks in my little dually. They are picking up steel by the multiple tons and I am picking up a ton at the most! Needless to say I do not have top priority but I do get pretty good service. Guy may know of Fazzio's steel.

What is that bar that you used to corral that spot weld? it's very tricksy.

Nothing like welding new metal, glad to see you making progress.
Re: My M 151 A1 Restoration Project
It's gonna be a shame to cover all that lovely craftsmanship with paint and thats the problem with excellence. Done right, no one ever knows you were there.
