Hammer, cut weld and patch on the Ford M151A2

Unread post by combat32 » May 27th, 2013, 1:06 pm

It is coming along, slowly but surely. Dang this 1/4 ton had a lot of holes in it, most are unknown to me as what they would have served, I ditched the ROPS so goin back to original configuration. Not a heck of a lot of rusted out places the back panel and batt box being the worst. Once I get the back patched I am gonna put some drain holes back there.ImageImageImageImageImageImage

I'd recommend keeping the ROPPS mounts behind the front seats. That way you can have seat belts.

Do not be so sure of that. The vehicle came with them stock, the federal law at the time called for them also, so yes you do need seat belts to be legal. Now, will a cop write you for it? Good question but he could. Not to mention that it is just plain common sense anymore. Yes, I grew up in the times before belts but I also raced my whole life so I know the value of belts. Not to mention ROPS but I will not go there.

I don't remember any seat belts in the 1/4 tons I drove, not until ROPS came out, we had our ROPS installed in late 87 at Ft. Benning GA. Other units might have gotten them earlier.

The A1 never had ROPS installed originally, only afterwards. The A2 did have it installed after a certain point, I do not know exactly when that was.

none of the mutts came with belts or rops originally. Rops was developed in the 80's and implemented around 1986/87 which was well after production ceased for the US military market. The majority of states, if you register your vehicle as historic, do not require seat belts if the vehicle was not originally equipped with them when manufactured. If you add belts however, you better have them on.

I appreciate all the suggestions for safety, mine is registered here in Arkansas no belts required if it did not come so equipped. If I had left the ROPS in then by all means I would probably wear them. It just ain't original equipment so I left them out, mine is not an offroader or highway driver, mostly parades so I think I should be good to go
