Thanks Rick, I will put that project on the top of my list.
I had not really noticed it before because the thing was so loud with the fording kit exhaust on it. I can't believe how quiet this MUTT is without that tall pipe on it. Now I can hear things a whole lot better, even while it is in motion in 4th gear with the top off... LOL.

I used a plumbers torch with the hose from the bottle to the torch and with the propane you point it at the suspected vacuum leak. The idle will rise when the engine sucks in a lil propane.
I could have sworn I put it together correctly. Diaphram, spring then cover. It does puke a lil fuel out of the carb mouth when you shut it down but I read that's normal and shows the diaphram is good.
I have the idle mix screw out about 4 1/2 turns which I think is too much. I picked up a can of carb cleaner to blast it thinking there might be some trash in it.
You give it some heavy throttle and it'll backfire out the carb, that's usually a sign of a carb being too lean, sucking air, or bad accelerator pump. Even if you SLOWLY give it throttle to rais the RPMs it has a ruff time running and wants to stall out and buck/cough out the carb.
I know that brass mix tube/emulsion tube is pretty jacked up. It was bent and deformed, but I cleaned all the ports in it,kind'a straightened it out, and installed it acording to the TM. It was loose in the carb though.
The more I think about it the more I believe that may be the problem.
Anyone got a spare?

4 1/2 turns is way to much. By about double. It sounds like this carb has been through the ringer, it is possible that someone has cranked the mixture screw in too tight and hogged out the metered hole. The emulsion tube will not affect idle that much. I am betting the idle passage is clogged with something. You will have to pull it apart again and blow out the idle passage from the carb throat towards the bowl. That way anything in there will be blown back out the way it came in.

LOL brother, my MOM put the halt on my MUTT activities for the day (My MUTT stay's here with MOM) so I could be more productive and trim the hedges around the front of the house. Man I hated doing it, but I Love my MOM and now I'm too tired now to work on the MUTT. That last 6% beer did the trick... but I finished the hedges.
Dang'ed ole cord man, gets hung in that hedger every time too... Now I got an excuse to maybe go to Lowe's one day.

Accelerator pump was good. Blasted the carb and mixture orifices. It's good. It's still having issues so I'm going to get some new plugs from O'riellys and a new inner dizzy cap. The engine starts breaking up when you raise the rpms.
Still slow cranking, I'm thinking the starter button is corroded or burned up but all the buttons I see look like they are made in China.

You say it is breaking up as the rpm goes up, that sounds like a vacuum leak. I know you used the propane but try it again with carb cleaner and the engine set at around 1200 with the hand throttle. I have had a lot better luck with carb cleaner than I ever had with propane. Be sure to get under the intake manifold because that is where they usually leak.

Checked the intake manifold last night, the bolts were very loose. I'm guessing because it sat for so long and I've ran the truck up to operating temp about 6 times now. Anyhooo, tightened them up and will fire it up this morning. Didn't want to PO the neighbors by revving up the truck at 11pm and it's outta' gas. Did grab a big bottle of the ethanol treatment at Chinamart the other day too. O'Reilly's had the big bottles of Techron fuel system cleaner for buy one get one free too! That is darn good stuff!

Do NOT use much of that fuel treatment! All it is is alcohol and there is already more than enough alcohol in the gas now and if you add more you are taking a chance of wiping out all the rubber in the pump and carb. Plus inviting phase separation in the gas.
BTW, The torque specs on the manifold are different for the top bolts and the bottom bolts. It is only 12 to 18 lb./ft if I remember correctly. You may want to plan on replacing the gaskets an the intake and exhaust if it has them.

WoooHoooo!
Running like a champ now! Revs up fine, just the slight lag at part throttle but from what I read that's normal.
Fresh plugs, non ethanol gas, retorqued intake manifold and 1/2 turn further out on the mix screw.
Found another starter button in the garage from my 4 wheel steer mule project. :(
Pried the tabs open and disassembled and filed the contacts clean and flat. Swapped it in and she cranks faster now.
Just need to bleed the brakes (again) and find a steering wheel to get it on the road. Officer friendly came by to verify and run the vin. so I can register it.
Now if I could just talk the wife into the 4 color MERDC camo.

Aww come on! You too! That's more stencils I need for the hood!
Rick, any chance you got a look at the dizzy vent fitting that's on top of the carbs? I'm now worried about the prestolite module overheating from lack of venting.
I'm getting a vacuum in the tube that ties into that darn carb fitting so it is definitely not venting the dizzy.

On the plus side the brakes are now bleed! I had to pressure bleed them to get all the air out. Just got done taking it for a lil' spin around the block. Chirped the tires taking off, tons of power! Happy camper!!! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
