New Acquistion (well about a month ago) 1st Run M151

Unread post by Austringer » October 21st, 2015, 4:55 pm

Here is one of my next projects. A 1st run M151. Not sure on the DoD or Registration number yet, but the body tag number is: 1109 (the 3 digit looks like a 0 but not 110% sure) She must of stayed in the military a while as she has a military installed a2 steering column installed and a few other MOWs that were done. Had turn signals installed with early turn signal box, will need to remove it.

She's a little rougher than I normally like to find them, but overall, it won't be that bad of a resto.

Items needed for proper resto:

1. Correct early windshield with small deflectors (currently have)
2. Correct early transmission/transfer case (have thanks to bazookajoe)
3. Early front hubs and wheel spindle yokes (have on my 2nd run donor mutt)
4. Single rubber bumper rear A-frames with 4 bolt hubs (have on my 2nd run donor mutt)
5. Correct steering wheel and column (have NOS one in my parts stash)
6. 4 Bolt (per side) grille NEED THIS PART
7. 5 Mag Rims (have in parts stash)
8. Correct front seats (have in parts stash)
9. 1st pattern spare tire retainer (have in parts stash)
10. Correct first pattern rear seat with welded footman loops on bottom (have in parts stash)
11. Correct early hood.

That's all the items I think I need from the top of my head. I know I'll need more, just can't think of them right now.

Overall not bad at all. The pedal assembly is really rusty, kind of strange.

The history I know of this one is that it sat in a "barn" for about 20 years and at least it was out of the weather and elements.

That is a nice looking M151! I have a few questions however. We have an early two cowl vent M151, and I was wondering where you found that serial number tag. It doesn't appear as though that one is right above the valve cover, but I could be mistaken. I have not found a single tag on our M151. Second, where did you find the run numbers stamped? Any information you could provide would be greatly appreciated! :D

Also, does yours still have the four latch battery box lid? If so, I would really love to see a picture of that.

This one did not come with one, but I have in my parts stash. the two extra brackets on the body were also cut on this one but not on the 2nd run one though.

ON the early ones, the foil tag is on the driver's side frame rail just under the radiator.

Hope this helps.

Jaosn

PS: If you want to make a 4 latch box, just take two boxes, cut two of the latches of and tack weld them on the one your converting.

The easisest place to find the run number is right behind the rear gas tank flange. Might need to wipe it down with a damp cloth to see it. It's only on the 1st two runs from my understanding which would be 1960 and 1961 as my 62 does not have it.

Thanks for the response! I will have to check ours out next time I am around it. It is in fairly rough condition and has had a lot of hands working on it, so I would not be surprised to find the tag missing. I am curious to see if it is one of the first 2 runs though.
