folded down the windshield probably for the first time since the roll bar was installed some nice 24087 OD under the seal. Looking at the jeep closer this weekend the whole damn thing was camoed with a paint brush in the army.

Spent a few hours this Sunday before the temp hit 100 here in Texas taking the roll bar out of the mutt long with the brackets and fuel tank. At some point in during this mutt's life the fuel tank was replaced it has carc paint instead of 24087 like the rest of the jeep and has no camo paint on it. I think it was done in civilian life do to the big empty sticker on the tank.

Up date on the restoration. The mutt also known as Kermit has had the body stripped of all small parts and weld repair and dents and bends in the body are being straighten. I have decided to remove the roll bar I know I know many of you say leave it in and I under stand the safety aspect of the roll bar and that it came from the military that way. I have had an A2 with a roll bar for my first MV while I loved and hated the mutt lol I hated the role bar and I have the time the skill and the spare sheet metal to do the repairs I have deiced to remove the bar.

first out side holds welded up getting my bearings back on welding again its been awhile lol.

Labor day I got the bent side by the fuel tank straighten out but need to hammer and dolly a little. Also got the front fenders straight from where the over size tires bent the lips down. So little by little shes coming along.

I'm just getting to the point where I'll have to remove the ROPS assembly in order to remove the fuel tank for cleaning. Seeing your photo of the forklift being used to lift the cage was inspiring, especially since I don't have one.......

The bars have all been covered/coated by the previous owner with some horribly adhesive material that makes finding the assembly pins/bolts/nuts almost impossible. When I try to slice into the coating, it's like kicking over a can of glue and picking it up again. Stuff just won't let go!

Now that the heat is tapering off, I will address the challenge again, starting this weekend. Again, I'm inspired by your approach to the restoration of your A2!

If I had not had the fork lift the roll bar would have been harder to remove. We actually lifted the jeep in the back off the ground trying to get the roll bar to come out of the mounts in the back. A can of WD and a sledge hammer fixed the truck issue lol.

Thanks TJ I was very lucky on the M151a2 the museum it will be displayed at needed a A2 we have a early M151 it will be nice to have a first model and last model of the mutt. Another member of the museum has a A1 hes started working on very clean and uncut only thing it needs is a good blast and paint new battery floor pan and TLC.

I see that your shovel mount is as badly mangled as mine was. Has it been wrenched off the lower spot weld to accommodate the bolt for the ROPS mount?

How are you going to handle it?

M3a1

It actually looks worse than it is in person if it becomes a issue I will probably pop the bottom weld and so the repair and then re weld. You have a nice mutt as well a lot more work to do than mine but still a nice find to have the original markings still.

I missed out on a nice clean one with an equally nice trailer up in Hico. We were on the way to Oklahoma to do some long range shooting and there it was, a good-looking and very straight truck with a winch on the front, but that appeared to be the only thing out of line.

Since I had some other shooters along it would have been very poor form to hold everyone else up and spend the time necessary to track down the owner. By the time we got back through there at the end of the week, it was gone. :(

I need to get busy on my half track!

Over the Christmas break I got some time to work on the Mutt. Driver side rear fender, fender support, trailer plug all repaired. Plan to tackle the passenger side rear fender on Thursday.

Well another day under my belt. The passenger side rear fender was beat up much more than I had thought not sure what happen but it had to have been hit by something at one time. There was a good spot of bondo that covered a good size dent. The army installed an antenna bracket about a inch lower than where it should have been do to the mutt having a ROPS Kit so I decided to weld up all the holes and move it to the correct spot. I was able to salvage some metal from a scrap mutt My friend has to patch the big hole on the top of the fender. After some hammering i got it pretty dang straight again but there was some rust pitting so some body filler ill have to be used. I decided in a effort to save time and hole drilling to cut the reproduction fender support and patch the old support with the new one. Worked out pretty well still need to clean the welds up.

So after about 6 or so hours and stopping to chat with Friends that showed up I managed to run out of welding wire lol and to make matter worse its a holiday and the stores around me were closed so the finish welding will have to wait for another day.
