76? M151A2 Project

Unread post by EXA6639 » April 20th, 2016, 4:02 pm

I have another A2 that I'm almost done with on an engine overhaul, and here is the information:

Engine
Serial Number: 5017884
Contract Number: DAAE07-71-C-0103

From transmission tunnel
11639700
C151-27387

Main dash reads
MFD by: AM General Corp
Contract No: DAAE-07-71-C-0103-(MYP)
Ver Ident No: 5017884
Date of Delivery: 7/76

From the C151 number, I would assume it's a 77 contract AMG, but the dash plaque has a 76 delivery date, so is this a frankenstein or were 77 contract vehicles delivered in 76?
And does the 71 in the contract no imply a 71 contract on both the body and the engine?

It has the canister bolt holes, but no canister or emissions; side drain holes and very little rust.
It is fitted with ROPS and fording kit, and is a fairly complete vehicle if not original.
It was running OK but I figured I'd go through it to gain some experience before I tackle my other (bigger) restoration.

This one was cut, but apparently put back together somewhere in CA before being purchased by the individual I got it from in Texas (was registered in both states).

Current markings read USMC 1070 but those could be recent... if anyone can help me decipher this I'd greatly appreciate it!

EXA,
can you please post a photo of the dashplate? The reason? The Vehicle ID no looks like a USMC registration number but there are too many digits. Also, no date-of-delivery should have been stamped on the plate. I would guess that the plate is faked, but I'd prefer to see it and be certain.

EXA..... yes, it's a generic dataplate. The details on it have been etched in by whoever wanted to make it look genuine, which it definitely isn't.

Ok. So assuming the C151 is correct then we can assume a 77 contract vehicle?
Based on your list of serials, what is an educated guess on real delivery date?

If it has no charcoal filter assembly then it could be an early A2 by AMG.
The C151 indicates a late body.
Possibly a replacement.
I have an A2 from Canada with original dataplate indicating 71 vontract but a 79 body.
The Canadian records indicated that it went in to depot repair for work .
Some time after it was surplused.
If I am not mistaken Marine Corps registration numbers are 6 digits.

Ken , I will send you a pic of the original plate if you wish.

Hi Fil, it actually has the bolt-holes for the canister. A previous owner/restorer removed it :D

Fil, you're not mistaken. However, the number on the dashplate has seven digits. It's a faked number !
