I see, Most of the storage places I have used or been to around this area do not have bathrooms, you go before you get there or after you leave. Or use the Sani-potty from the boat in the unit.

Got started on the body today. stripped most parts, pulled the engine, and put it on the rotisserie. Next step is to throughly clean it, top and bottom.

I've been spending a lot of time on this project, but have struggled with the paint process. The first coat on the tub immediately started reacting with something. The bottom "black" paint went on fine, but trying to get the blue to stick was not easy. It appears the flat tan GCI paint I used on it absorbed the degreaser. Even attempts to power wash it out had mixed results. Finally, we scrubbed it all down again, sanded it, then re-primed all the tan. The blue went on easily.

One other issue that I've learned is that the flat tan color hides a lot of surface issues. The satin USAF Strato blue shows everything!!

The pre disassembly picture just has to be put in. The vehicle I started with is the second from the left. It's the tan one with the markings on the bumper. The one on the far left is a Saudi A2 that a contractor bought there and brought back. It was never in USG service. State sold it directly to KSA. The red one is my Encore. The next is a !964 Kaiser M151. The furthest and hardest to see is the '70 A2 I'm going to restore next. In front of the Kaiser is an A1 front clip I've disassembled for parts.

Image

Started by stripping the tub of everything except the suspension. Here is the engine coming out... It ends with the reassembly in process......

LOL..... I use the bay at the far end for most of my stuff. It is a fairly tight space, and they were just using it for storage. Things slow down here a lot in the summer, so I can move over and use the other lifts or areas if they are clear.

Vin's truck will be a nice addition and will represent the Grissom AFB Museum in parades and other local events.

Fantastic looking job, I do have to say that while in I did my best to avoid anything that had Security, Police or flashing lights on it.   We did know a couple MP's that hung around with us but they were as crooked as we were!

Now that it's done, I will tell you that the semi gloss Strato Blue showed every dent, bend, scratch, and spot weld on the truck, n contrast to the CARC substitute tank.

So, this vehicle was built on an Army contract, went to the Marines, came back from overseas deployment and went to Ft Polk DRMO..... escaped the torch and sat for almost 20 years in Texas.... I bought it made it Army and tan, then remade it AF and blue.... Now it's off to it's next life. Another MV back on the road. Now I'm trying to figure out which of the three wrecks I have at the garage to get back on the road next!

They picked up the truck yesterday around noon. The driver said it would be delivered to the buyer in Indian this afternoon. It went in a closed call hauler. For a little truck, it is a good deal higher than most sedans. He still had two vehicles to pick up after this one.
