PCV valve

Unread post by toadette » April 21st, 2014, 2:21 am

I can't find anything in the TM's to show me what should be inside this valve. I took mine off my 1974 A2 and there is a piston inside which just slides around without any spring to adjust the movement. Is this normal or has a spring gone missing? If so can parts be obtained or should I just get a new PVC valve or should I just ignore it? Look forward to getting some advice.

As it should be I would say. Basic test for a PCV valve is moving it and hear that piston move around freely.

George,
So, it seems there should be a spring to tension the valve cylinder. I wonder how mine has gone missing and what effect it has not having one?

hi

i think it will not work correct
at idle speed (high vacuum )the inside go to close the valve with the tip and it will stay there
the spring must take the inside to the middle as the throttle is opened (lower vacuum )
the engine now sucks the blow by gas out the crankcase
if the spring is out you may have a problem with idle adjustment
you do not know if it open or closed ? wen the plunger can move on it self and stay where it is
