Lighting problem

Unread post by Fil Bonica » November 15th, 2014, 11:28 pm

Have a quirky thing going on with a A2 turn signal.
When I activate the left tirn signal the right blinks at a low level.
Changed light switch and turn signal switches separately with no difference.
Any thoughts before I tear out rear harness.

hi fil

see first
if you have wire connector 22-460 below the dash loose
try then the left direction light and what happens at the front right direction light
if it is OK the problem is at the rear
put the connector together and take the trailer plug wire 22-460 from the harness
try the left direction light and see what happens at the right side (front and rear )
if OK you know it is the trailer plug
if not it must be the harness

hi again

this is also posseble
if the ground from the left rear light is bad it can find ground at the right rear light and front marker light
the power go than as follows
wire 22-460 left to direction bulb (and bad ground ) trow the left light bulb to wire21 to the right side to the bulb and then ground
the lights use the same ground bold as the direction lights

Also be sure to check the grounds and connections inside of the lights.

Two different sets of tailights. One conventional and one led.
If anything it is external.
The fun begins!!!

I always install a toothed washer between the body and the light assembly and it will probably eliminate your problem, i had a similar situation on a freshly restored A2. Remember this...fresh primer and paint job makes for a poor ground, so once i started installing the toothed washers behind all light fixtures ,i no longer had problems.

Problem Solved!
Bad harness.
There was a chafe spot in the harness inside the rail.
Only noticed it afterwe removed itfrom the vehicle.
Everything worked as expected after we replaced things.
