Chinese Coils

Unread post by Bucolic » August 16th, 2017, 10:41 pm

Can anyone point me to a good source for NOS coils? I've gone through three, maybe even four, of those pretty chrome Chinese coils in the last six months. I'd really like to get this cured once and for all.

I know this doesn't answer your question but I have a couple of questions for you because it's high time we start nailing down the suppliers of junk coils, and avoid them.

First, can you describe for us what kind of use you are getting from your truck such as, daily driver?, in a hotter part of the country?, heavy use, or other?

Are you running a properly plumbed vent system and is your generator putting out the proper voltage, etc.?

Where are you getting your coils?

I'm asking these things because RAPCO supplied me with a 24v coil that is also new, pretty, and chrome, with a closed bottom and it seems to be holding up so far. The use of my truck is around town in daily triple digit temperatures.

Cheers,
TJ

The NEW Chinese coils from Red River are supposed to be better made than the last batch. These are being contracted by Reomie in Holland. I am really curious to see if they are actually better.

OK, last August I finally got my jeep together enough that it was time to run it. I had an electronic ignition in it but my mechanic couldn't get it to run. So I purchased a new "Swiss" type electronic ignition and he couldn't get that to work either. So I bit the bullet and purchased a new point type distributor. He got that to work, no problem. The coil that came in the distributor lasted maybe 2-3 months. I put the coil from my original distributor in and that lasted 2-3 months. Having anticipated another coil failure I had ordered another coil from TNJ Murray. That's the one I just replaced a couple of days ago. Again, anticipating yet another coil failure, I had ordered another. That one I got from RAPCO. It's still working. Today I ordered five (5) coils from a guy on Ebay (nos4jeeps). $175.00 for five coils. He stated that they are "Made in Türkiye for Turkish army in high quality. Thanks". We'll see.
As far as what kind of driving I do, I take my grandson to school every morning and pick him up every afternoon (Providing the jeep is running and/or it's not raining). It's been in a couple of parades and I've made a few 20 mile runs with it. Other than that, I usually use my pick-up. All this driving is done in California, in the San Fernando Valley. And I'm not running a thermostat and yes, my distributor is vented properly.

Those are some very good prices, the problem is they would probably double by the time shipping to the USA got involved.

Reomie and Red River ships containers of stuff back and forth regularly, Blake has great prices.

They are in Euros but I believe right now the Euro is favoring the dollar, in any case they are fairly close. Nobody will ship them to Australia?
