vacume line routing and hookup

Unread post by Lindsay36551 » December 11th, 2016, 4:10 pm

Hey all !
I'm trying to figure out how to rout e and hook up the wiper system on the 151.
Have no idea where anything goes or where to hook it up to vacume on engine.
Pictures would really help
Thanks in advance

unfortunately , that diagram does not show where to hook up the vac, lines.
Do I hook up to the pump, intake manifold, carb?
Where does the return line hook up to?
Best regards

The line to the wipers will come off of the vacuum pump through the firewall to the U tube under the firewall and then to the vacuum switch and to the T for the wipers. The return will go to the other U tube and out through the firewall at the wiring harness grommet to the air cleaner. A hint here, those tubes under the dash get clogged with rust all the time. I managed to get one clear and on the return side I leave the tube just barely on the end of it and if I need the wipers I just pull the rubber tube off of the metal U tube and let it hang, the wipers work much better with no resistance from the long return line. The M-151 is the only vehicle that uses the return line. Also be aware that when you hook up the wipers that the right and left connection are reversed because the right side wiper is mounted upside down.

The vacuum lines going TO the vacuum pump comes off of the back of the intake manifold and goes behind the engine with a tee for the distributor vent line and then over to the inlet of the vacuum pump. This is all by memory and it is pouring 30 degree rain so I am NOT going out to verify right now!

The rain is letting up but I have two cords of wood to get stacked. I see the pics that ken just put up and the vacuum line to your pump is there although it appears that maybe the T for the distributor is missing, hard to see. The distributor vent to the carb appears to be in place. So you need the line from the pump in through the firewall, there is a hole there on the engine side of the horn.

got it easy peasy , once I found the connector on the vac, pump! it had folded down so I couldn't see it from up top!
Working perfectly! :D :D :D
