Unread post by muttero » December 15th, 2016, 4:30 am

Hello,

Due to the huge amount of manuals, It is hard for me to find the one which shows the procedure to adjust timing of the engine. Could you please inform me about the manual where I can find all the info for adjust the timing of my A2??

Many thanks,

If you are a visual guy this should help. Kind of long winded dude but does get to the task at around 5 min mark.

Dear Beltfedbob,

I really appreciate the link, thank you very much. Unfortunatley I am not sure it is what I need. The problema is to find a mark in somewhere in the engine, where it indicates just the point.... I do not know if I am explaining... I am not a mechanich, but this info is being needed from my mechanic to adjust timing....

Any help??

many thanks

Willie, here's what you need:-
1. Go to the top of this page and look for the heading "G838 MANUALS". Click on the heading.
2. Look at the list of manuals and right-click on TM9-2320-218-20-1-1 May 1982.
3. Click "Download" and save to your computer.
4. Open the manual and go to Section 4-17, and read pages 4-66 to 4-74.

Everything you need to know is in this section.

Ken
Kind regards....

That video shows the timing point and if you look closly it also shows the mark on the pulley. If your mechanic does not know how to find a timing mark find a new mechanic, this is the most basic of all automotive repairs.

I'm not sure how deep into the motor you want to go so here are a few photos.

This is the crankshaft and cam gears.

And to top it off, the pointer should be lined up right on the line on the pulley. That is 6 degrees before top dead center.
