A2 Rear Cross Member Information Needed
I need some information on the A2 rear cross member. I have the end pieces that have the tail light cut outs but not the center area. Is it the same as the A1 with the exception of the bottom contour? Does any one have some pictures that they can post?

Re: A2 Rear Cross Member Information Needed
Guy,
I just happen to have my 1978 AMG on the rotisserie, upside down. First I went out and took this photo of my 1970 Ford:
If you look close, you can see that the light bucket part of the rear cross member is actually a separate piece. In fact, when you look at the next ones, you will see that the inside pieces are also separate. There is one on the left and one on the right. So the rear cross member is actually 4 separate pieces.
Hope this helps.

I see what you are saying about the inner rear cross members. Are the tear drop light bucket cut outs that have the formed in flange part of the main rear cross member? In other words, are the tail light cut outs on one part?

The light buckets are two pieces to make one side. I have a set of them that were cut off from the rust bucket body I got from Dan. I'll get over to the shop and photograph them later for you.

I'm talking about if you are looking at the back of the truck, there is a tear drop looking cut out with a flange all the way around that is rolled towards the inside. Is that part of the rear cross member? Not the inside where the light attaches.Vzike wrote:The light buckets are two pieces to make one side. Just got back from the garage, and now I see things differently. The rear cross member appears to be more complex than I thought. The part you are describing, is in fact a separate piece, that extends all accross the back. The inside pieces (both light mounts, and the two inside pieces) are welded to that longer piece, to make up the full back cross member. Is that part of the rear cross member? Not the inside where the light attaches.

Guy, I see these on e-bay from time to time. They may give you some insight.lpcoating wrote:I'm talking about if you are looking at the back of the truck, there is a tear drop looking cut out with a flange all the way around that is rolled towards the inside. Dan, aren't those adapters to put A2 style rear lights on a 151 or A1?

Its my understanding that those buckets were created to allow for upgraded lighting on A1s in order to meet European safety requirements."
In addition they also added the front and rear side light kits.

Re: A2 Rear Cross Member Information Needed
After several phone calls to Fil today and him laying on the ground in his garage I'm pretty sure the rear cross member is all one piece and that it has the tear drop buckets on the ends. Thank you for those of you that sent pictures and that I also called.
