ROPS in an A-1

Unread post by Bucolic » February 23rd, 2017, 12:59 am

I know the ROPS was designed for the A-2, but I have an A-1 and I recently acquired a complete ROPS that I'd like to install. Is there any reason it won't work on my A-1? I read the installation manual and I'll need to install a short piece of angle iron for the bottom of the rear feet, but other than that, it looks pretty easy. Just a lot of work.

You should be able to install it without issues. AFAIK reason that it was not approved for the A1 is the fact that it brings up the center of gravity making an A1 even more prone for a possible rollover.

I always say that I don't worry so much about a rollover, to a very large degree that is my driving preventing it from happening but I worry about somebody hitting me and then the seat belts do provide better protection than a bare bones A1. This is based on experience (happened however in my M201).

Do you really want to butcher up the rear body that badly? I would modify the rear bars to mount to a plate that mounts to the top of the fender. Unless you plan on rolling this thing down a mountainside that would be more than enough to protect the occupants. The rest of the mounts are not all that intrusive.

My A1 has ROPS. It had it when I bought it in 1997. I left it in when I restored it 10 years ago.

I hadn't thought about that Rick. That sounds like a hell of a good idea. Thank you!
