electric fuel pump overhaul

Unread post by Jerome » March 6th, 2017, 12:47 pm

Hi,

I like to have a few spare parts 'just in case ' and was wondering whether it is possible to repair an electric fuel pump - and, in that case, is there any overhaul kit available?
Having a complete spare pump (+ gasket) is of course the ideal solution, but it is quite expensive, so if there is another way...

Thanks,

Jerome

No overhaul kit that I know of. The pump has very few moving parts. Take it apart, make sure its clean and it all moves freely and that's it. If it doesn't work after that its electrical and those parts are all sealed and non-serviceable. Best way to keep spares is just to have a spare pump. Gaskets for the cover and the filter pieces are all readily available.

Be careful of the wire coming up the pump to the cover. That is a problem area.

Thanks guys. I think I will invest into a spare pump, as it seems harder to find than a mechanical one. I've seen significant price differences, are there different qualities? Anything specific I should avoid?

There is only one in tank pump so there should not be big price differences. The going prices are in the 200.00 pus range the last time I checked. This is one thing the Chinese have not duplicated yet to my knowledge.

Well, they invented gunpowder and fireworks. Seems like the result would be about the same if they made the M151 electric fuel pump. They have the explosion part down to a science; they're halfway there
