Cylinder Sleeve

Unread post by kmam » May 9th, 2017, 1:44 am

Pulled the engine down today and have to do some work on it. The cylinders are sleeved: is it correct to assume that is not how the engine is manufactured and it has been reconditioned at some stage?

These cylinder blocks are solid cast and not sleeved so it was modified. that, together with the lack of oil pressure would scare me away from that engine.

Thanks Rick

The bearing are all good, as is the crankshaft and camshaft. The bearings have been replaced with 10 thou oversized so it looks as though it has had an overhaul. I am taking it down Friday for cylinder honing, cleaning and to have some measurements done.

Alternative engine is not a financial option given the cost of buying and then getting to Australia. The work is being mostly done by a mechanic friend who is into mil vehicles and has done lots of restorations including jeeps, doge, etc. He has not seen and M151 before, henepce the questions.
