Oil Pump
The oil pumpmwas putting out about zero psi at idel and 20 psi at revs. Have it out and find nothing obvious: there is no blockage between the pump and the oil pressur sender (pressure testing was done using an external quality gauge); everything looks ok - no damage to gears, etc. However there is a fair amount of slack in the internal gears that pumpmthe oil and I guess this is the cause so I will order a new pump.

Re: Oil Pump
How are you measuring the oil pressure at idle? Dash gauge? Or did you remove the pressure sender and attach a gauge with a line attached?

Re: Oil Pump
Did you check the pressure relief valve spring in the pump? Also, How are the rod and main bearings? If they are bad so will the cam bearings be and that would be the cause of the low oil pressure.

Re: Oil Pump
The spring felt a little week but, apart from the slack mentione all was good.

Re: Oil Pump
What was the pump gear clearance measurement?
Some people are too busy knowing it all to ever learn anything

Re: Oil Pump
Have not measured it - it is at my mates place so can't do it even if I had the necessary tools. However he is an experienced mechanic and believed it is probably too slack.

Re: Oil Pump
Most of the time low oil pressure indicates a wear in the crankshaft bearings and not likely a malfunction with the oil pump.
Did you checked them?

Re: Oil Pump
Yes, they checked out at less than 2/1000. Should that be OK?
