A lot of you have asked how to take an electric pump apart and what is inside of one. Well here it is in all it's naked glory. Not much to it. What you see in the first picture is the entire pump in the order of disassembly. That clip on the right holds it all in.
Here is the body of the pump with the plunger removed, the gas moves up through the center as the plunger goes up and down. The two valves at either end are usually what clog or the plunger gets gummed and will not moved up and down.
This is the assembled valve from the bottom end.
In the center of this picture you can see the same valve apart with the clip, spring and valve. There is another valve in the bottom of the plunger which I could not get out of this pump.
Here is how the plunger, spring and valve all go together, the two piece black thing is supposed to be a one piece O-ring and it is followed by a metal washer and then the funky clip which clips in from the outside edges.
Note the capacitor numbers on the inlet wire, this was probably a pass through capacitor for radio suppression. This particular pump had broken off the wire mount and shorted out on the housing.

Thanks Rick. Informative as always.

Re: Electric fuel pump disassembly
Rick,
Have you found a source for the O-rings or any other wear parts in those?

Re: Electric fuel pump disassembly
O-ring should be in any standard o-ring set and there are no other real wear items. If the coil burns out it is toast. I have not tried taking the capacitor apart yet but I will.
