Hot, hot, HOT

Unread post by m3a1 » June 17th, 2017, 6:08 pm

Ok guys. The A2 doesn't want to start and the commonality seems to have something to do with the ambient temperature and being in Texas it's HOT. Darned thing won't start in the heat of the day. Any other time, things seem to be normal.

I think it's flooding and I make sure I do not use the choke anytime it's really hot out.

I checked my fuel cap (set to vent) and after a failed attempt to start, I popped the air cleaner hose off and the throat of the carb was wet with fuel, though I had not touched the gas pedal.

Checked the oil in the air cleaner and there's no gas in there.

This is a new problem as the truck always started at the first bump of the starter. Is this a stuck needle valve thats causing the trouble? When it does start it runs like a champ.

Anyone have a similar experience?

Cheers,
TJ

The throat of the carb will always be wet after shut down due to it shooting a shot of gas from the accelerator pump as the vacuum drops. Pumping the gas pedal before starting does noting at all but exercise your foot, no mechanical pump. This is where a lot of people have problems starting these. If it does not start they try and try and then they choke it. Well every time yo try and stop cranking and even during cranking as vacuum rises and drops it is injecting some gas. So yes, it could be flooding. Try putting your foot to the floor before even cranking it and I bet it fires right off.

Rick, I think you nailed it. It was hotter than blue blazes yesterday and so far, no issues. Thanks very much!

Cheers,

You don't have to tell me how hot it was, I had a guy post on the G741 site about FREE M37 parts. I jumped all over that and drove to Baltimore to pick them up. This was and entire truck for the most part in pieces!! Filled my trailer and my pickup! Then I seized a brake caliper on the way home in heavy traffic. LONG HOT day!
