if the regulator fails and put max amps to the rotor the alternator give max power (60 amps )
the voltage will be also high 30 to 35 volts with battery`s
this is about let say 30 volt x 60 amps = 1800 watts
736 watt is 1 hp so 1800 : 736 = 2.44 hp
so if the belts are a bit loose they burns out at the alternator pulley

2.4 horsepower does not sound like much but when you are trying to turn it with a pulley that small it is a massive amount of force.

ok.... that really made what happened very clear.
I have a new regulator coming for the back of that alternator. I have two others on the bench. One needs a terminal block (on the way also), and the other needs assembly and test. Now I get to use my newly acquired low voltage tester and the cable adapter kit.....
