Rubber seal between front grill panel and radiator
Kia Ora all
Another question for the team - the front panel/grill has a flat rubber seal around the radiator opening and which is attached with large wire staples. This rubber seal goes up against the radiator to provide a seal which I assume is to push cooling air through the radiator rather than allow it to leak out into the engine compartment?
Could some one tell me how wide this rubber sealing strip is?
I suspect I can find a suitable flat rubber seal here in NZ which I can adapt to fit and will work as a seal?
Thanks
Rosco

Don't know if Clark rubber is in NZ but their Australian stores carry a rubber strip that is a perfect fit.

Thanks for your response to my question. That was the plan, to source the rubber strip locally from a similar outlet to Clarks we have here in NZ - "Para Rubber".
Problem is I don't know the width of the rubber strip which I need to replicate so I need someone to tell me how wide the original rubber sealing strip was?

Re: Rubber seal between front grill panel and radiator
Unfortunately mine is over at a mate's place where we have been restoring my MUTT and, due to family commitments, I won't be back there for a couple of weeks. If you are still interested then I can measure and photo the rubber strip I used as it is a perfect fit - you'd reckon it was made for it!

Re: Rubber seal between front grill panel and radiator
Rosco,
The rubber seal on my A2 attached to the grill is 2 1/2" wide, and appears to be an original part held on with the large staples.
There was a post on here a few months ago about this rubber seal, but I can't find it now. The person who answered said they used industrial rubber baseboard material and cut it to the 2 1/2" width. He said it was close to the same thickness as the original seal.
Hope this helps,
Cal

Thanks for the response to my question about the width of the rubber sealing strip.
That can be this mornings job to track something suitable down at the rubber shop. It makes it a lot easier when you know what your looking for.

Re: Rubber seal between front grill panel and radiator
That was me that used the rubber baseboard. And yes, it's holding up just fine to the heat. I couldn't use staples so I used pop-rivets with small washers.fowlercal wrote:Rosco,

Re: Rubber seal between front grill panel and radiator
Hi all
I now have the rubber strip and so about to start attaching same to front grill unit.
I am proposing to make up stainless steel "staples" similar to the originals as finding decent wire similar to what was there previously is proving a challenge. Will let you know how it plays out!!
