A-1 Re-enforcement plate

Unread post by Cobra5 » November 11th, 2008, 11:09 pm

Were the Marines the only ones to use this plate on the rear of their vehicles or did the Army use it as well ? Also when did the Marines adopt the longer front bumper. Was it on the A-1's or when the A-2's came into service.

When you say re-enforcement plate do you mean the corner pieces that bolted to the rear corners of the jeep with the lifting shackles? As far as I know the Marines are the only ones who used that. The long front bumper was part of that "kit" for the marines. So it was used on both A1 and A2s. The A2s of course have a redesigned rear and the lifting shackles are incorperated into the rear corners. Remember the Marines did not use the M151 but instead used the M422/M422A1 Mighty Mite. The Corps figured out though that they could get 2 M151s for the price of one M422 so they switched over to the A1s.

That's what I was talking about. So I now know that my 66 A-1 was USMC. I guess I'll have to add the correct bumper to the list of things I will need when I restore it.
