Distributor vent lines
Hello everyone. I need your help. I have noticed that I don't have the two vent lines that go to the distributor.
From what I have seen in the forum and in the manuals I think that the line that should enter in distributor from the front is the one that would have to come from the double connector that is in the highest part of the carburetor. In the photo you see that only a line comes. The one that would enter the back of the distrubuidor I think it goes to the manifold intake but I do not know where to connect it.
I am very worried because I do not know if I can drive the mutt without putting in danger some Part of the engine.
Are these lines very important?
Should both be installed urgently?
Can the vehicle be driven safely?
thank you very much
Elmer

Re: Distributor vent lines
The vent lines in the distributor helps cool the coil and extracts the corrosive gases caused by spark, the pics are too small for my old eyes, I can take some pics tomorrow for the routing if needed.

Re: Distributor vent lines
Many thanks Ken,
I have searched more and I also found in the manuals the specific schemes of the vent lines of the M 151A2.I'm ready if I finally have to install it.
I would be very interested to hear your opinion about it is safe to drive the vehicle without the distributor vent lines (save for the mechanics)

Re: Distributor vent lines
It is not going to self destruct but it will tend to wear out the distributor cap and rotor a little faster by not venting the ozone. It will also turn the wiring connections green. This is over time, not in a month or two.

Re: Distributor vent lines
Thanks Rickf, after summer i will ask the two lines and I will install them.
The person who made the installation told me that he had not put those distriburor vent lines knowingly because He thought that if I was not going to submerge the vehicle usually those lines were not so important and not connecting them could prevent the refluxes Vapors into distributor.
Everything I am reading and you are telling me about the subject advises me to mount the lines.
Regards
Elmer

Re: Distributor vent lines
Yes the lines should be mounted. There is also the added benefit of moving air through the distributor helps to cool the coil. I doubt there is much cooling involved but with the problems we have with the coils in these and the cost of them anything that can help should be hooked up.

Re: Distributor vent lines
Hi
Can I suggest you make them??
Not hard to do if you take your time you will get the outcome you are after. Steel tubing and any other parts you need are available from most motor parts supply companies at a moderate cost.

Re: Distributor vent lines
Someone could put a pic of the place of the intake manifold where is connected the vent line coming from the distributor

Re: Distributor vent lines
The very back of the intake manifold facing the firewall, there should be a fitting there. I am guessing all of the lines were removed from this vehicle? Does it still have the PCV breather line to the crankcase?

Re: Distributor vent lines
I just realized you have an A2 so you do not need all of the fancy T connections in the diagram Ken sent. You just need what Hambone sent you going to the one side of the distributor and the other side a short rubber hose to metal tubing around the front of the engine to the carburetor

Re: Distributor vent lines
Thanks.I have the connection scheme for the A2.Is the connection place in intake manifols the same?
In other hand,
looking and looking at my distributor I have noticed that the wires coming from the spark plugs are plugged in a different order from the manuals and from the pics I have of the others motors. My distributor is a presolite solid ignition. I have tried changing the order of the cables but the motor does not start and I have plugged it back like I had. As it is the motor works quite well although when changing gears it drowns a little and has some momentary failure. When it fails, black smoke comes out.
Do you think it is normal the order of my wires?

Re: Distributor vent lines
Your distributor is 180 degrees out. The intermediate shaft will need to be pulled out and put back in a half turn around. I have never done this but several people have detailed it on here. I will see if I can find one of the posts. That will not cause the running issues though. After the other issues you had with the lines and such I question the abilities of the mechanics working on the vehicle. I would say you are going to have to start from the beginning and give it a complete tune up. Timing, valve adjustment and then look at the carburetor and make sure the choke is adjusted so that it opens all the way. It is common for some people to adjust the choke so it does not open all the way to compensate for a lean condition. This is NOT the right way to fix the vehicle.
