Wiring Questions

Unread post by on-to-berlin » August 8th, 2017, 2:12 pm

I installed a new and NOS wiring harness to my A2. Generally everyting works but I have 3 issues:

1. I am missing the wires 76 and 77A that connect to the circuit breaker behind the dashboard. I only have the A1 wiring harness diagramm and couldn`t find the correct diagramm for the A2. Only the ones in the 34P manual but they lack the wires. So do I have to make T shapes and connect these wires somewhere?

2. On the dashboard I miss the 57 ground wire to the board itself. On some dasboards the wire is riveted directly to the board but mine does not have it. Do I simply drill a hole and rivet it or bolt it on one of the gauges?

3. My service light in the rear do not work. Turn signals and front service light work. Also black out service light and black out stop light. Panel is NOS so this shouldn`t be the problem. What am I missing here?

Thank you for any input!

76 and 77 are for electric fuel pump on A1.
57 has to be made an attached to panel.

OTB....

the A2 wiring diagram is here..... viewtopic.php?f=3&t=9479&p=80187&hilit=wiring#p80187

If the rear lighting isn't working, you probably have a poor earth/ground. You must make sure that the tail-light units are properly grounded to the body. If you have re-painted the vehicle (it looks like you have) then the rear light unit circuit cannot complete because of the paint/primer etc.

Berlin,

Mount your ground wire to one of the panel lights on the back of the Dash Panel. Then you won't have to drill a hole in your panel.

Hi,
on the other hand but related to the wires.....

I would like to ask you if you know which connector of this alternator I have to plug in the 568 wire in mmy A2. My previous mechanic plugged it to the W and after a few days of driving 2 meters of wire burned. I fixed the wire, Install a fuse and connect the cable 568 to D + (on upper left). The wire has not been burned again but the alternator does not charge the batteries and I have been told with mi mechanic and he told me that it is damaged due to the previous short circuit. Next week I'm going to change it for an equal but new one and my intention is to connect the 568 to D +. Do you think it is correct?

Thanks

hi

the B + go to the batts positive
the B - go to ground
the W is the puls from one stator coil for a tachometer
the 568 go at D + see below it must have a light in it if not alternator will try to load over this wire and the small diodes will burn out

normally the wire tad go at the D+ or 61 has a control light in it
from contact switch X control light X D+
if contact is on engine not running power go to regulator and to field so the field get magnetic light burns
engine runs alternator put power intern at D+ and load batts
now you have 24 V from contact one side light and 24 V from alternator other side light no voltage difference so light is out

check also if you have power at the wire 568 if contact on
you had a major short trow the stator coils and negative diodes at the alternator

hi George and thanks,

I've checked power in 568 wire with contact in and YES I've 24,9v.(Contact off NO power).

If I understood correctly I have to install a light bulb on the 568 cable. Now I have a fuse and I should change it for a light bulb. I understand that if I do not install the light bulb I will have problems. it is right?

What 61 wire is?

Thanks for your clarification

Elmer

Hi,
I attach some pics of my alternator. In the future I would like to change it for a NOS but the one that will give me the next week is exactly like this but new. I think that on my A2 is the only thing that is not original. When I bought it had electric fuel pump but already it is changed by a mechanic.
I am very interested to know if I have to put a light bulb on the 568 or if it is not essential
Thanks
elmer

George is probably the most knowledgeable person around when it comes to automotive electrics. If he says it needs a light then it needs a light. I have noticed that you tend to question what people say a lot. That is fine but when they repeat it with an explanation and then you question it again you are going to find that a lot of these very knowledgeable people will just get frustrated and stop replying. You would do well to pay attention to what is said and listen, not just hear but LISTEN to what is being said. It may not be repeated many times. You are working with a modified setup there and it is a European system apparently so George is the go to guy, Pay very close attention to what he tells you.

Hello Rickf,I'm very sorry that you think I sometimes ask things twice because I doubt what you are saying to me. If I ever ask for a clarification about an answer, it is because I sadly do not speak English as I would like it and I am afraid of having misunderstood some explanation. I am very grateful for the help of all and I am very sad that you have misunderstood me. Apart from now I will try to be more careful with my doubts. Thanks for everything and I'm so sorry.

No need to apologize, I just do not want you to be left out because people get frustrated. I tend to be very patient so nothing to worry about with me. Then again, I am not working so I have more time to be on the computer where some of these guys are trying to get there answers in along with work and home time. What is your native language?
